Polish,

First things first. Great terrain. Second, love your thoughts about tracking. It adds depth to the game. Sometimes beer and pretzels type game of shooting is great. Sometimes adding depth to the game to showcase real strategy. I can go either way and probably like somewhere in between.
Thanks Hoth. Yes, that is what I like too… depth…

Great looking real estate, almost makes me want to relinquish my Imagi-nations non aggressive non expansionist nature.
Time to fire the first shot 7.62. lol

A brief update…

I fired up my 6k resin 3d printer and test printed this model. It is 12mm tall… so I want to try and scale it down to be in line with infantry heights… Model was created by Projectwargaming.

The die corral works pretty well… (3d printed)

Setup and initial turns:

Dug in 75mm Regimental Infantry Gun

Dug in 75mm PaK 40

I Battalion dug in defending the village…
Image

Regimental Flak elements. (supposed to be a 20mm, not the 37mm AA model)
Image

Russian armored units and infantry approaching

Aerial views looked like a good idea but not so much now…

That is a very nice layout you have there, Polish GI! I am very interested to see the cornfields when they are all painted up.

Thanks guys.

Through a couple of turns so far… need to pick up steam.

But the Russian advance is running into resistant panzergrenadiers.

Status picture:

Image

Northeast of the town shows the T-34s along with SMG riders approaching the PaK 40 that is dug in. T-34s continue to miss or be ineffective with the dug in units. The PaK 40 nailed one of the T-34s with HVAP and the panzergrenadier company on the left side of the pic eliminated the SMG unit associated with the destroyed T-34.

Image

On the main road and north of the town, the Russian infantry continue to advance as their fastest pace. Russian artillery bombarded the dug in panzergrenadiers and eliminated the command unit. So they are now pinned and without a command unit. German mortars and artillery and hitting the Russian infantry as they advance.

Image

On the northwest front, the T-34s managed to eliminated the 20AA crew and are suppressing the dug in panzergrenadiers. But the 20AA hit the T-34 numerous times and by chance, immobilized the one T-34.

Polish,

Amazing work on the Fields... I can smell the corn boiling in a pot as I type this. Good work.
Quantity has a Quality all its own.

Final update on Corntesi May-1944.

The battle started at 0900 hours and at this point, it is an hour and a half into it…

Here is a status pic… Since Command Decision represents a model for a platoon, the T-34 company took a hit. So in the lower right hand corner is where the remaining T-34s fell back to after watching their comrades get blown away and a failed morale check. Quite a bit of smoke forming in the town now with the Russian artillery coming in and destroying buildings.
Image

German Pak crew has been eliminated so the Pak 40 is out of commission. Panzergrenadiers that are dug in on the north side of Corntesi are dug in but taking lots of fire and artillery.
Image

On the north side of the town, this panzergrenadier company was rock solid. Never flinching and continuously returning small arms fire. Having an MG42 unit never hurts either…
Image

View of the 75mm IG crew. The burning T-34 on the right was hit by the 75mm IG’s hollow charge round. Penetrated the left side armor and boom.
Image

The north side company and northwest defending panzergrenadier company did not fair as well. Under heavy artillery pressure and the elimination of a command unit caused them to split and withdraw. A company of T-34s are following gunning down who they can.
Image

Status picture from the northwest. On the right you can see a company of T-34s wrap around the side of the town while looking for targets of opportunity. There is a single SU-76 following the T-34s in case of any armored threats.
Near the road leading to the town, you can see a battalion of Russian infantry moving through the vacant panzergrenadier dug in positions and into the town.
North side of the town has been heavily hit by Russian artillery and buildings are on fire.
Ground is starting to become littered with artillery marks/divots.
Image

Moving to the ground level, good vantage point from the T-34s on the west side chasing the withdrawing panzergrenadiers.

View point from the SU-76 that is trailing the T-34s. A German tractor was destroyed as it was found.
Image

Russian rifle battalion moving into the town now that the panzergrenadiers withdrew.
Image

This is a view from the north illustrating the approach of two Russian battalions being held up by German small arms fire and German 105mm artillery rounds.
Image

SU-76 is moving south looking for targets of opportunity.
Image

T-34s on the west side of the town looking for any armored threats in open terrain. Germans are pulling out and moving south. Russian infantry are moving into the town from the north. Panzergrenadiers were able to hold onto the town for around two and a half hours. Now, there are only a few elements left in the town.
Image

Picture from above. You can see the Germans pulling out in the upper right hand corner.
Image

Under the Command Decision rules, a commander can issue an order to Rally its troops. So since two T-34s within the same company were destroyed, the commander can bring one platoon back.
Image

A German command unit along with the towed 75mm IG and crew fleeing south.
Image

More non-combat units withdrawing to the south.
Image

A command unit took over what was left of a panzergrenadier company and are withdrawing to the south.

The solid panzergrenadier company that is dug in and not moving anywhere. After the Russian artillery, mortars and small arms fire, they were still returning fire back.
Image

Turn 7, 1200 hours (3 hrs in), the German panzers arrive. A heavy panzer company and a medium panzer company from Panzergrenadier Division Grossdeutschland along with some supporting armored panzergrenadiers.
Image

German panzergrenadiers are moving into the forest in the center of the picture for cover.
Image

The Panthers and a PzKw IVF2 move west to get into position when they spot the lonely SU-76.
Image
Image

The T-34s on the west side of the town are looking for the German armored threat but cannot see them yet.
Image

The T-34s on the west side of the town are targeting the Tigers and the Tigers now see the T-34s. Range is around 1,200 yards.
Image

T-34s view point of the Tigers in the distance.
Image

The SU-76 fired at the lead Panther as it came around the forest area. 2 shots, 1 missed and it scored 1 hit. Unfortunately, the hit bounced off the Panther’s frontal armor.
The Panthers returned fire and scored 3 hits out of 4 shots. The SU-76 was destroyed.

Image

Turn 8, or 1230 hours.
Status picture from up above.
