Re: Hoth's Corner
Hi Hoth
I have found that often I have a high initial enthusiasm for a project but sometimes sort of lose interest as other projects compete for my attention.
Right now, I am working to finish up the rest of my M-13/40 Company for my North Africa Italians. When I started I had a lot of enthusiasm and finished the first platoon not too long after that. The other 2 platoons plus HQ section have been languishing on nails for the last 2 years and a few months ago I started work on them again. Then for the last couple months or so they have been "stalled" again but in the last couple days I have gotten back on them. They are getting pretty close to being done and need some highlights, decals, dusting, and dullcoating plus track highlights to finish them off. Right now, I feel pretty good about them.
And that has been the way of things for me quite often. Get excited about a project, get vehicles or troops prepped, primed, undercoated, base coated, and then they may get done soon or sit for several years before completion.
One thing that helps me mentally, is to have a purpose for the vehicles or infantry in a game. It helps me to focus on getting them done, even if ultimately I don't use them. I still have Panthers, Tigers, and Elephants that need to see some action in a game but at least I have them for when the time comes.
More on some upcoming projects on Pete's Place coming soon.

Re: Hoth's Corner
Pete,
Thanks for sharing your incite and your personal experiences. I have the same issue, in that I have high initial enthusiasm and then it drops off. I think my issues are multi tiered. The big one centers around being distracted by the latest and greatest GHQ offerings. I will often put in orders to grab the latest shinny thing even if it will sit on the shelf. The second issue and also a big contributor to the problem, has to do with wanting to form a whole company or larger. This is a daunting task when trying to put a decent amount of detail into an individual model. You can only do so much repetitive, or at least I can, before it gets tedious and I need a distraction. This is exacerbated, in part, because I don't always get to play with my pieces.. The current gaming group, that I am involved with, has varying tastes and they don't always align with mine. Combine that with life that seems to speed up every year and when they do play, I only get out once in a while.
Recently things have changed to where I have been super focused on getting a 1943 style unit and equipment together. This seems the more common time period my group likes to play. Thankfully I got some of my pieces on the table about two weeks ago.. Felt good to stretch some tread.
Lately I have limited my purchases, with the last one being around December of last year, and that has helped me to focus on what I have.

Re: Hoth's Corner
Slowly pushing along on my progress. I have been off from work for just over a week and do not return back until next week. Has been nice with some good hobby time. I have completed all the tow cables and tools on my Tigers and am fast widdling down on my PZIIIs. Soon it will be time to do the wood handles on all the tools and boxes and then off to decals and Washes. I am so danger close to having a large set of pieces totally complete for the first time since I started back into the hobby 14 years ago. I have attached my latest progress.

Beautiful work Hoth! I keep thinking they can't get any better, and then you add some more details to them and they get more awesomer!

Re: Hoth's Corner
Nice panzers here, sir! Lots of them too, and well done. I'm quite unable to do that many at a time, I prefer to go with small batches.

Re: Hoth's Corner
Foxbat,
Thanks for the feedback. For the first time in a while I am really happy with the progress I am making and the quality of what I have painted. It helps to still have people that do great work that help inspire improvement. As for Doing this many at a time, its not my preferred method either. If my goal is too big, I get distracted with other purchases and releases that GHQ comes out with. My latest push is so that I can get an entire side of a battle on the board. My group prefers WWII GHQ stuff and mostly mid war at that. I think once the core unit is done, which is set for 1943 battle of Kursk time period, the additions will be smaller in nature.. That is the goal, anyway.

Re: Hoth's Corner
Well, Being true to myself, I have not fully finished my last batch of WWII vehicles before starting another batch... Pictured below is the PZII Fs that I am using for my Kursk Regiment project. They are just base coated and there is no detail as of yet. There has been some sense of urgency because I am moving and possibly will not have space to airbrush for a while.. by a while it could be almost a year.. So I need to get a lot of stuff down to just some hand painting and decals.. Since I only have a 4 month or less, I don't think I will get much more than what I have now.. The ups and downs of life.
With that said, I present to you, my head quarters/recon units.. I have to admit, I was not always a fan of the PZII Fs. However, through this project, I am kind of digging the little guys.

Those Panzer IIs are looking very good so far, Hoth! I am looking forward to seeing your progress on those and especially want to see how they turn out. I hope you are able to get more done before the move as well.

Re: Hoth's Corner
Pete,
Thanks for your feedback. I am going to try and squeeze in, what I can. I tried last night and found my rust color was contaminated and ruined. I like to start on treads and then move to wheels. Than if camo'ed, I will do camo and then stowage. I have done some poking to see what camo was on Pz IIs at kursk. I know there were few by this point in the war. Except for tank encyclopedia, I have only seen dark yellow, German grey or a desert color. Understanding that dark yellow was used in both Russia and desert. The tank encyclopedia shows a mono green scheme. I may try a few like that. See link below

I may just leave them dark yellow. Any thoughts?
