Telephone poles . . . . my old nemesis . . .
I'm still debating about them and still haven't because:
1. I'm just a little a OCD. I'd want the pole line to look right every time I laid out a new board. If I place a pole I'd be tempted to run lines, make sure I'd have at least 16 feet of clearance, add yard sale posters and the odd dog chained to it, an elderly person with a walker UNDER the cable guy telling he'll die if he falls off, and maybe the occasional illegal cable connection :).
2. I'm a bit clumsy and would eventually knock one over :(.
3. I used to climb the things for a living.

You're right though, it would look boss to have them and maybe later I'll add them. As it is I'm short on storage and I can just stack everything in a box. I could mount the poles on a base like it was done on another thread. The usable part of a standard round toothpick would make the pole around 2 feet in diameter and 40 feet tall which will be prefect when I get around to doing residential blocks. There's always the Z scale model railroad resources. Poles, street lights, and traffic lights / signs are on the list.

It's do-able and thanks for the input :).

Oh . . . and they lied . . . your life doesn't flash before your eyes when you fall off of one . . . its the sky, and the pole, and the ground, and the sky, and the pole, and the ground . . .

You may always say that telephone lines and electric ones have been laid undergound.

In this way you can put traffic lights and /or street ligts without lconnecting ines.

I agree with you. In my case the fall was so unexpected tht I had no time to realise what was happening before hitting the ground, (luckily without breaking anything).

Nazgul - pretty impressive stuff there Dood :D

It looks like a perfect American city - all square and straight roads.

I'm trying to make up bits for a European-type city, without blocks and twisty, bendy roads.

It all makes for some good street fighting.

I need to ask for a little help.

I decided to do the river towboat while gathering information on the landing craft (don't ask, it pushes, but they call it a towboat . . . and for once I'm only making one), but I've reached a fork in the road. There's still a lot work to do, but should I finish it as a modern vessel, or as a post apocalyptic one? If I do the modern one I'll need to build a pilothouse interior, if not it will be covered in armor panels and the misc survival gear will be added. Any suggestions will be appreciated. (It's no where near pibber's work, but you can never beat The Master :D )

Nazgul,

That looks really cool. I don't really have an opinion on how to finish it ... it depends on what you want to use if for. I just like seeing any large, custom made, 285th scale stuff.

Well done.

That looks exactly like the river boats they use in the Congo. Stick a dual 23mm AA gun on the top deck and an RPU-14 MRL at the rear and you are good to go! Great job! Can I borrow it? LOL

Just an update. Nothing fancy and a slow go. The ladders are Z scale and do not look too bad. And yes . . . those are supposed to be coffee cups in the pilot house . . . just can't decide if I want to attempt the handles or not :?. Almost there, I just need to stop over thinking this . . . and just one more pot of coffee . . .

Lots of good stuff here and in the "Show Us Your Stuff" thread. Here's my latest contribution, my painted up HEMTT Gun Trucks:
(I have to say that they look better at a distance; the scratch-built nature is pretty obvious in the close-up shots. Plus, I have a heckuva time keeping the HMG barrels straight...)

Lots of amazing work on this forum, thanks for sharing.

I thought I'd post this before I screw it up . . . I still have a little work to do with detailing and it might wind up being cluttered. I opting for a grungy, well used look. (Dang, the photos really bring out the flaws :()

She is the "Audrey Brown" and is the start of a small fleet of vessels and barges. I'm debating of if it would be worth while to attempt a series of battles between various factions trying to control a section a river or a port. I still have copies of "Car Wars" that added boats so I can convert those rules to cover movement in water.

If my next project turns out well I'll post a tutorial on how to make it. Then I'll work on a "Home" for the "Audrey".

Something more military,

A WIP on SOC-R boats. Still need to trim off excess glue, add ribs to the side, detail, and add weapon mounts. As it is I only have enough M240B to put double mounts on one boat. Also I haven't decided if I should make one a RAB-P, but I think I can convert some of my .50 cals to make the other weapons.

I fudged on a few things, especially the "radar mount", but I've seen pictures where plating was added behind the pilot to protect him on withdrawal from the mission site. I also think I'll leave them unmanned until I find the right figures.
