Poland '39 game pic link
Hello All,
Played a game yesterday that was based on part of the second largest tank to tank engagemnet in the campaign. Unfortunately we had to pick up before we got to the fun part involving the much anticipated duel between Pz Is and TKS tankettes. Thanks to Northman for stopping in and pushing some lead for awhile.

Wow. I just can't get over your terrain. You have a real eye for using the models, and the tools, to make it look right. You also seem to have a knack for the scenarios. Not just another replay of Panthers vs. T-34s. Your games seem to tell a story straight out of a history book.
Bravo, my good sir. Bravo.

Finally posted the second half of the Poland 39 game to my flickr album. It ended with most of the Panzers Ko'ed or in bad shape, but with the Poles too weak in infantry to clear the houses and hold the bridge.
The game is a representation of the action around Tomaszow Lubelski between the Warsaw Mech Brig and the 1st Light Tank Bttn against the 4th Leichte Div on September 18th, 1939.
Northman got to run some Polish infantry during the first part of the game, but didn't get to see the outcome. Sorry, but that unit didn't get much further. They wound up getting pinned down in the village by small arms, MMGs and mortars

Thought I would post a link to my flickr site and a rather long photo essay of a game we played last Sunday. The scenario was centered around trying to get a German column across the board through Russian armor units during the collaspe of Army Group Center. Not much in the way of Panzers. Pretty much a lend-lease group of Russian--M4s, M3 scout cars, P-39s and even a Peep. Pretty bitter battle with just about all the German mobile assets KO'd and not much left for the Soviets.
The pictures have notes, so avoid the slideshow and just pull up the individual pics.
Cheers,
Mark

Fantastic write up
I really like your terrain. It looks very real the way you've painted the colours for the grass and tracks. The woods also look very realistic as well as the buildings. Can you give us some details on how you've made them?
The big bridge looks good as well - is it a paper bridge?
The scenario also seems great for a short club game. Might try something similar.
Many thanks for posting - really makes me want to get the figures out and shake some dice

For the woods I tried something different. I also do a lot of 15mm gaming set in America, and I never have enough woods, so I decided to make some large pieces that would serve as the core with individual trees as the outer layer that figs could be placed in them. I got some 2 inch thick foam used for upholstery, cut it into large blocks and triangles. Sprayed it first black, then dark green then med green. Covered the tops and sides with smaller pieces of chopped up foam. Then added some Woodland scenics (or knockoff brand) foliage to that. Resprayed again in loose patterns of brown, greens and tans to keep it fom looking too uniform/un-natural. I then put the individual trees around that with the smaller ones on the outside.
Once again, I add the roads and some features to the ground sheet with pastels. I've found that most of the pastels come out in the wash, especially if you spray the colored areas with something like Simple Green before washing.
The large bridge is from Leva--not sure if its still available. Buildings are from many different manufacturers.

Looks good Mluther.
Did my eyes deceive me or did I see Vickers Export tanks in your Polish army?
