I have an unknown GHQ battleship, unassembled and unpainted. Most of the underside onscures the text, best I can tell it has GHQ 1100 imprinted on the bottom.
Is there an easy way to tell me what ship it is?

If you could post a picture I would bet that someone here could ID it in about a hour.

The unknown ship in my navy. Any ideas?
PS. thank you for the offers to host, but I figured I needed to learn how to do it sooner or later

- assuming the pics are in fact viewable!

I don't collect the GHQ 1:2400 line -- I'm much too heavily "invested" in 1:1200 / 1:1250 scale to change scales now!! -- but what you have is an American SOUTH DAKOTA class battleship. There were four ships in the class: SOUTH DAKOTA, INDIANA, MASSACHUSETTS and ALABAMA. The SOUTH DAKOTA was outfitted as a flagship, and had two less 5" / 38 cal. twin turrets (the space created by their removal was outfitted as flag quarters) amidships; thus, she had 16 - 5" / 38 cal. guns, as opposed to the 20 carried by the rest of the class.
As to which GHQ model -- I think it is USN2, the MASSACHUSETTS; looking at pictures in GHQ's catalog pages, the models for INDIANA and ALABAMA seem to have 20mm AA guns in single mounts on the forecastle, while the MASSACHUSETTS has a pair of quad 40mm AA mounts -- as does the model in your pictures. And from your pictures, I count five holes for mounting the twin 5" / 38 cal. turrets amidships (each side, that is) -- which should rule out the SOUTH DAKOTA. So my guess -- MASSACHUSETTS.
Hope this helps!

Tom Stockton
