Homemade Ship capable of carrying a micro armour task force

I am currently building a homemade ship which will be capable of carrying micro armour vehicles. I am making it out of plastic foam, and some metal, all of which will be painted. It will have a large vehicle deck capable of holding a great deal of equipment. If nothing else, it will do well to store my micro armour... It will also have a few landing pads for aircraft (rotary wing).

Hopefully some pictures in a few weeks. Anyone else ever done this?

Cheers,

What type of ship? Sounds like you're describing an LHA or LHD type amphib.

Think along the lines of the new San Antonio class, but increase in size alot.

I started building an LHD out of wood once. I had the flight deck and the well deck put together with a basic wooden frame - no superstructure or sides to the hull. Unfortunately the move from Germany to the States sunk my project. Damn those Turkish movers!

I never thought of foam as a building material. Post some pics of the project as it progresses. I would like to see how it turns out.

I actually started to do an amphibious type craft, but discovered the hull was too large. But,it did have the dimensions for the ship following. Sorry its not done.I also ahd to dig it out of the attic. The method of construction is poster board,or cardboard. I hope these pictures will give you some ideas on what can be done with basically paper.

Thanks, but I wish I had the time to invest in its completion. You wouldn't believe the hours invested in just what you see.

JB, thanks, that is just the kind of work I was looking to see. Truly amazing.

As to my project, I'm still messing with ideas, but foam will form the hull and superstructure if i ever complete it. It won't be perfect, I don't have enough time or experience, but hopefully it will at least have the look cool factor.

Worst Case scenario I have a place to put some armour.

Cheers,
