I'm working on an upcoming campaign game our local club here in Las
Vegas is going to do this coming year for the Battle of the
Atlantic.
The way we plan on running this is to have a set of large maps of the
North Atlantic including the North Sea, Norway, Iceland, Nova Scotia
and down to Freeport in Africa. Each side will deploy their forces
as markers on the maps, then when opposing forces meet, we move to
the gaming table and game out the battle. I love the idea
of fighting a campaign because it changes the flavor of battles
tremendously and forces one to think beyond the current situation to
availability and need for the ships currently engaged to survive the
battle yet also produce a decisive result. Then as time passes new
ships come out of the shipyards just as they did historically, with
rolls for ships that never made to see if they are completed or not.
Points will be awarded to each side for getting convoys through and
control of the sea lanes (Allies) and sinking merchant ships
(Axis),...
The main problem we have is in locating detailed operational maps of
the North Atlantic that are large enough to plot forces with a dry
erase pen. Do any of you have any ideas on where we could locate
such maps? Copies of Admiralty maps or Kriegsmarine maps would be
ideal. Any help would be appreciated.
