Ordinarily I don't like these lists but in light of the fact that GHQ has not produced anything in their modern 1/2400 range in years I think its time to demonstrate to them that there is a "demand signal" for this genre.

Okay, here are the gound rules. List your top 10 modern 1/2400 wanted items - in priority order. By April 1st I will tally all the results and provide them here that way GHQ can look at our desires and decide if they wanbt to add any of the suggestions to their 2007-2008 product line.

I've said it before elsewhere on this forum but I think GHQ missed the boat by not taking advantage of the 20th and now 25th anniversary of the Falklands conflict. So my list is skewed sharply to fix that shortage.

1. Argentine Aircraft Pack: Neshers, Daggers, Skyhawks, Trackers and Pucaras
2. HMS Fearless
3. HMS Glamorgan
4. NATO Fighter Aircaft Pack: F-16s, Tornado, Rafale, Typhoon
5. Soviet Fighter Aircraft Pack: MiG-25, MiG-23, MiG-21, Su-22
6. Cold War Carrier Airwing: F-8, S-2, E-1, A-1, A-3, A-4, A-5, A-7
7. PLAN Luhai class DDG
8. PLAN Luhu class DDG
9. RN Type 45 DDG
10. HMS Minerva Leander Batch 2 (Exocet)

Here's mine...

UK HMS Hermes (CVH)
UK County Class (DD)
UK HMS Argonaut (FF) Leander Batch 2
UK HMS Fearless (LPD)
UK Land-based air 70's (Vulcans, Canberras, Phantoms, Nimrods)
AR Veinticinco de Mayo (CVL)
AR General Belgrano (CL)
AR Sumner Class FRAM (DD)
AR Santa Fe (SS)
AR Aircraft (A-4, Mirage III, Mirage F1, Super Etendard, Pumas, Trackers,...)

It's hard trimming it down to just 10 when there are soooooooo many gaps in this forgotten line.

OK, folks, here's my prioritized wishlist for modern 1/2400 ships:

1. Gearing FRAM DD (lots and lots of these)
2. British LEANDER FF (possibly with one common hull and multiple superstructure pieces to customize between basic/exocet/ikara/seawolf versions.)
3. C. F. ADAMS DDG (extra piece to assemble with either single arm launcher (DDG 14 and up) or twin arm launcher (DDG 2-13))
4. A. BURKE Flight IIA DDG (with helo hangers)
5. British County Class DDG (Falklands / Exocet configuration)
6. HMS FEARLESS British LPD
7. USS ORISKANY (modernized with angled flight deck)
8. USN Carrier aircraft II: Vietnam pack (F4, F8, A3, A4, A7, H3)
9. LPD 17 class
10. Flight deck and hull number decals for modern ships (since you can hardly find them anywhere except from trusted friends or occasionally on EBay - this is a serious market void that would easily become best-sellers)

There's lots and lots more I'd like to add: Long Beach, Little Rock/OK City, Virginia CGNs, older USN CG's, PLA(N) DDGs, JMSDF ships, ROKN ships ... but this top 10 list is a good beginning. Admittedly, some of these you might be able to get from other manufacturers or in the 1/3000 scale, but I'm certain that collectors like me will pay for the GHQ level of quality and detail, and that there are enough ships in those classes (or for FEARLESS, enough wargaming demand) to make them marketable and profitable new products for the folks at GHQ to make.

As i have been advocating the addition of some more modern ships to the GHQ line for quite a while now, but I will give my top 10 ship's I would like to see GHQ add to their collection. These a in no particular order, jut what I would think make great addition to the line.

1. H.M.S. Ark Royal (1954-1978), this was th last fixed wig carrier to serve in the Royal Navy. Also it would be nice to have some aircraft from that period to place on her deck.

2. H.M.S. Hermes (with the ski-jump + Harriers and Helicopters)

3. H.M.S. Devonshire (County Class Destroyer), with the option for 2 guns, ot the exocet upgrade.

4. H.M.S. Daring (New type 45 Destroyers), there are ment to be upto 8 of these being built, so plenty of scope for sales.

5. Leander class Frigates, with the options to up grade to Exocet, or Sea Wolf missile systems. Plus a Wasp Helicopter fo the landing deck.

6. R.A.F. Aircraft, to match the Russian, and U.S. packs.

7. H.M.S. Iron Duke (Type 23 Frigate), There are 13 of these in service with the Royal navy, so plent of opertunity for sales of ths ship class.

8. H.M.S. Ocean (Amphib Helicopter Carrier + Aircraft to place on her deck), Currently in service with the Royal Navy.

9. H.M.S. Fearless (Landing Platform Dock), In Action in the Falklands Campagin, and a must for those interested in that campagin.

10. R.F.A. Fort Austin (Fleet Replenishment Ship), every navy needs support ships, so this would make a great addition to any Royal Naval Fleet, 4 ships in class so plenty of chance for sales.

You will ntice these are all U.K. Ships, but a GHQ only make 5 model's, it would be nice to see some of these added to their catalouge i the future.

happy painting,

Hey Mark (SeaHarrier2006)

The Canadian Goverment (Torys) Just put out a release that they are going to get rid of the navys support ships in 2 years and the new ones have not even been begun :? :?
One of them The Protectaur is even getting a 30 million dollar refit right now.

So apparantly you dont need support ships for your navy as long as you dont want to go any were with it.

Being a firm believer that 1:2400th is too big for modern fleet type games I'd go for:
Osa missile boats
Iroquois DDH
Leander frigates (one with guns and Limbo, and maybe something with optional different armament)
Charles F Adams destroyers
Koln frigates
Original Spruances with the ASROC
Grisha frigates
Kashin destroyers
FRAM Gearings/Fletchers (lots of countries acquired those)
Probably not for the modellers, but hopefully practical for gaming with.

Hi Mike (Zippy),

I was amazed to hear that the Canadian government cam be so stupid to effectively leave their navy without any support ships for their fleet. It just goes to show how different Governments are being run by the same idiot's all over the world.

Looking at the list's so far it looks like the Leander class Frigates would be a popular addition to the GHQ range, as well as the County class Destroyers and Fearless Class LPD from the Royal Navy.

Cross fingers, we will see at least 1 on these added to the range in the near future.

Reguards,

Mark (SeaHarrier2006)

Okay, here are the results - RN were the heavy favorites overall.

1. Leander class FF - with parts for differnt mods, i.e. guns/exocet etc.
2. County class DD/DDG - with parts for different mods.
3. Fearless class LPD.
4. Gearing class DD with FRAM conversion.
5. HMS Hermes CVH.
6. Osa missile boats - more missile boats in general.
7. Arleigh Burke FTL IIA DDG.
8. Charles F. Adams class DDG.
9. Type 45 DDG.
10. Luda 1 DDG.

The first two were significantly ahead of all the others. Ranking on everything below number five was very close and since I asked for your preferences in order the rankings are a weighted average.
