Mounting Infantry for GHQ The Game
I see how some of you have mounted your Infantry for the GHQ game. How about some of you others, how may individuals do you mount to a base, and what size base do you use. Mind you this is for GHQ the game now.
Thanks in advance.

Hey jb,
For GHQ rules, they, being the infantry, can be mounted on 1" x 1" square, or round, bases. I use polystrene sheets which are 0.40" think, which is thick enough to reduce any warping that may happen.

I now mount all my figures regardless on either small steel bases or steel washers and use magnetic lined boxes for storage and transport.
I'm currently basing for a half-size Flames of War using 2-5 figures per base. I use 2 or 3 for Germans, 3-5 for Russians. Can't be the Russian hordes without the horde!

I use pennies to base infantry and small guns, and nothing for the vehicles and large guns. I house rule that movement groups and assaults don't have to be touching , but rather within one inch ov each other (measured from center to center. As for the number ov miniatures on each base, it depends. Between 4-6 miniatures per base for infantry squads, and only 2-3 for scout/ special forces / man packed weapons (which are mounted on their own bases) I will prolly stop mounting MP weapon on their own bases tho, just to reduce confusion - I only have 16 bases ov infantry finished so far so it is not too late to change my ways.

Basing Infantry
I used the 1 x 1 metal bases for basing some Afrika Korps infantry. I used 5 figures per base and it looks about right.

i've been using 4 riflemen and 1 LMG per .75" x 1" base.
i'm having trouble deciding on a basing material. i used 1" strips of 1/16" thick basswood, and then attaching a strip of magnetic tape to the bottom so i can store them in the metal-bottomed boxes i have. however, by the time you paint and glue some terrain on the basswood, it can warp a little. not bad, but not really desirable either.
i also tried some 1/8" thick MDF hardboard, but i received comments that the base looked too clunky for the scale of the miniatures, a critique i'd have to agree with.
yesterday i bought some heavy "illustration board" from the hobby shop. it's for airbrushing, painting, displays, etc. not sure of the exact weight, but it's rigid. i may try this with the magnetic strips and see how it works. not sure how durable it will be though.

It's widely available
You can cut it with simple tools
You can mount troops on it with CA glue, and remove them if need be
You can paint them
You can flock them
You can store your troops/vehicles on Vinyl magnet lined "things"
You can make units stay together with Vinyl magnet strips i.e. 3/4" X 3" will may a company "cohesive"
They are not clunky
They look COOL
They are reasonably priced (Not as cheap as pennies though)
They do not warp...
etc,
