didn't want to ruin the Nato/Warsaw thread, so i made a different one. how do you think Russian forces these days stack up against US and Nato forces? i know their organization was pretty out of wac for awhile, but from what i've seen, I think they've gotten back on track. or at least starting to. given the current arsenal and organization of the Russian military, could they give western forces a run for their money in a conventional landwar in western europe? I know it's not so realistic anymore, but just a thought.... i noticed that the Russians have come out with quite a few new weapons systems and armor systems. -

"Kaktus 5" reactive armor
"shtora" active defense jamming system(pretty recent)
"arena-1" active countermeasures system(recent as well, similar to the Israeli/US 'trophy')

How many of those new pieces of kit are toys for the arms fairs?

There are a number of imponderables in the other thread - this one is even worse!

How much warning does NATO get? The British are already utterly commited, and have no capacity for a third front. Are the US any better off? The tank armies are vanishing, but the mech/light infantry is probably more able to cope. Which countries not on continental Europe have forces still deployed there?

And who will pull the pin when oil reaches US$200/b?
