Airbrush technique for clods!

I was inspired looking at the gorgeous micro-armor on Ritter Krieg's website and decided to try airbrushing a set of 6mm stug's I was working on. I'm also a model builder, so I'm relatively comfortable with an airbrush. Using an Iwata revolution BCR double action airbrush under low pressure, I managed to COMPLETELY screw them up! They're more green with overspray than the dark yellow they started out as! With a lot of effort, swearing, spilled paint, repainting, etc. I managed to make them presentable. I felt there had to be an easier way to get the kind of control I was looking for. I cut an index card into three 1" x 2" strips. I then cut a number of irregular camo patterns in each strip with various exacto knives and hole punches. This would serve as a stencil I could spray my airbrush through. I figured that my newly rebuilt Nashorns (brass gun tubes) would make good subjects with the big slab sides to test the technique. It worked great! After some decals, I was very satisfied. I have since painted a number of late war German recon (Pumas, Sdkfz 234/1s etc) and they look pretty good. Not as good as Ritter's, but we're getting there!
