Goodbye to a fellow gamer

Post by SSgtBuck »

Gary Gygax died today at the age of 69. I don't know if he ever played micro armor, but his interest in medieval gaming led him to develop the popular Dungeons and Dragons role playing game. I bet he's pushing lead in heaven, if you believe in that sort of thing.

Sad news!

The guy was my hero,
Without him I might not have discovered gaming.

This is indeed a time for mourning.

Although I have always been primarily a historical wargamer, I have spent many enjoyable evenings playing D&D with those more interested in the fantasy game.

I spent far too much time and far too much of my paper route money on D&D when I was growing up. It was my first foray into miniature gaming and today I'm still spending too much of my paper route money (but not enough time) in this hobby.

I observed a moment of silence, eyeing the Crown Royal bag full of well worn polyhedral dice on the book case. He started a genre, but, I never got a chance to ask him what he was thinking when he came up with the magic rules for AD&D.

I met Gary Gygax once, years after I started gaming. I've spent thousands of hours and thousands of dollars on my hobby. I've met some of the most interesting people and have made the best friends in the world.
Thanks for everything, Gary. You brought so much enjoyment to so many people.
