TOUR AT GHQ

Over spring break I took the family to the Mall of America, which is just a short distance from GHQ. I spoke with Jim Moffitt by phone and expained to him that I was from out of state and he was kind enough to agree to give me and my family a tour on very short notice. I was amazed at what I saw. The staff at GHQ hard at work and rows upon rows of Micro Armor sitting on shelves just waiting to be bought. Jim expalined the process that is used to design and produce the product. After speaking with Jim I'm certain that most of the peoples wishes I have read on this forum for new models will be granted at some point and time. I now have a better understanding on what goes on at GHQ and won't grumble when my order takes longer than I think it should to be delivered, or when models from my wish list are not granted right away. Everything that is done at GHQ is done by hand, not machines, by a few people. I would like to thank Jim for taking the time out of his busy day to make my vacation one to remember.

Brought Forward for those who asked.

I live across the pond in UK so will probably never get the opportunity to tour GHQ but I have had the privelage of visiting a smaller concern (Baccus miniatures) in the UK and can honestly say that company's like these deserve a lot of praise.
We wargamers can be critical at times regards delivery times, why not this or that particular model etc etc but we dont always appreciate the hard work that goes on to satisfy our hobby.
Cheers to all the manufacturers out there.

I am going to be in London UK for a few days next week. Making the long trip from Singapore to UK. Was wondering if there are any GHQ shops, outlets or hobby places in London for such stuff?

Hi exodusforever,

As far as I can find (Albeit I'm a relative new comer to GHQ) there is only 1 main supplier of GHQ in the UK, The Wargames Emporium but they are in Sheffield. You could do a search on the web to find them but if struggling send me a private email and I'll send details.

I'm unsure about any other hobby shops etc in London.

Hope this helps
Jas

Visit to GHQ

I and a friend ,too, were able to take a visit to GHQ a number of years ago. Something I had always wanted to do. Living in SW Lower Mich. We took the train into Chi and then rode the Empire Builder into Minneapolis. Got to meet Jim, whom I had talked to many times on the phone over the years. We had set up the tour over the phone in advance. They are just like us, hehe, shelves of books lined the wall in Jim's "office". He was painting while we were there and we got to see some of the new stuff he was working on at the time. And one corner was set aside for taking pictures...he was working on the cover for the catalog that showed the viet nam firebase with the A1 Skyraider at the time. We spent an enjoyable day there, talking about painting techniques, the manufacturing processes, civil war reenactments, hehe, and all sorts of stuff. They were very acommodating and friendly. I enjoyed especially talking to the model maker/mold maker there. I was amazed at the detailed work they put out there with what they had. I was a tool and die maker at the time and it was just fascinating to me. I was kind of expecting cnc machines and micro machinng centers, etc. Instead it was like the other gentleman said, all hand made from scratch, more like a modelers workbench, lol, it has to be a labor of love for them. It was a great trip I'll always remember. Like I said we spent the better part of a day there, even taking a break at lunch time and trying out a near by Greek Restaurant that Jim had recomended, then we returned, did some shopping there at the factory and took our leave.
