GHQ Video Contest Part II

As many of your may already know, the planned video contest did not go over as we had planned. We then added a post asking if there was any interest in such a contest. We have received a few e-mails inquiring about the contest. After an exchange of a couple e-mails, one customer noted that the fact that we made the topic "Sticky" (so that it remains at the top of the topics list whether it was recently added to, or not) kept it from standing out, and they recommended that we start a new thread. If there is any interest, let's open up a discussion about it. When would be a good deadline? How much time would the average person need to put one together? Are you interested in putting something together? Are you interested in seeing the work that others have put together? Let's try to keep any this on the general interest/viability of a contest initially, and try to work out all of the small details of what the contest would be after we have determined whether or not the interest level is there.

I'm still very interested in this project and making slow progress to make it come to fruition. I have an artificial deadline of June due to an impending move. If not done by then it might be months before I can do anything. Keep the contest going.

Now that I have some free time, I'll try to do something.

Well, the final order has been placed. The wife and kids are out of town the weekend after next. My storyboard is complete. A little bit of painting and a lot of set construction over the next week and a half and I should be able to get "something in the can". For those that want a teaser its "a day in the life" during WWII as seen from the 1/2400 scale perspective. A little Pacific war, a little North Atlantic and a little bit of Norway. Had to scale down from my original plan of having Malta/Med and S. Atlantic action as well. Just not enough time to retool (buy and paint new GHQ minis to replace the Brand - X minis I already have). I'm also shelving plans for stop motion segments due to lack of time.

GHQ,

Any further news on this? I'd like to participate but I'd need probably a good 2 months to get anything done - I'm taking a Flash Animation class this semester so this subject might give me some good material for assignments. Is it still a go? Deadlines?

thanks,
Tanner

To be honest there really doesn't seem to be much interest. A couple people have said that they would try to put something together. We tried to pump the last one quite a few times, answered any questions about it right away, listened to suggestions and implemented most of them quickly, tried to keep the topic at the top of the list of forum subjects (ultimately made it "sticky" as suggested by one forum member), and unfortunately there were no entries. We understand that everyone has a life and cannot drop everything to put a video together. However, we also know that there is only so much that we can do to create interest in participating. Two months sounds like a good amount of time for an entry deadline. If there are 5+ people who want to commit to putting something together, let's give it another try. If anyone is actually interested in saying that they will put something together, chime in and we can resurrect the idea. Otherwise maybe it's best to shelf it for awhile and see if there is more interest in the hobby.

Now for the preachy part. Obviously GHQ is in business, and we want to try to do things that will allow us to stay in business. We are the oldest wargame compnay in the world, and have been in business continuously since 1967. The idea for this contest is to promote GHQ, AND promote the hobby of historical miniatutres wargaming. The idea was initially spawned when someone on this forum posted a link for the "I am a wargamer" video. This is a hobby that many of you enjoy and have chosen to have it be a large part of your lives. We are greatful to have such wonderful customers. Unfortunately this is a hobby that many people don't even know exists. There are literally millions of people around the world who are very interested in military history and/or military modeling, and they have no idea that there is a hobby that would allow them to play out the many "what ifs" that they have when reading books on military history, or watching a show on The History Channel or Military Channel. A short video hosted on You Tube may be just the thing to inspire some of these people, or just let them know that this hobby exists. We have had some internal talks about putting some things together and pushing them in new ways- maybe some videos that you put together will inspire us and get us thinking in new directions. The bottom line is that anything that you can do to help promote the military history, gaming, modeling, GHQ products, etc. will be much appreciated by all of us at GHQ, and many members of this forum. If you can put together a video, be active on this forum, on other forums such as The Miniatures Page, play games at your local store, put on games at conventions, etc. you will really help to elevate the visibility of our hobby. With more visibilty, there will be more gaming opponents, more products will be produced, and more local gaming outlets for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for your support,
GHQ

Hey! I'm still in this! I spent a good chunk of time this weekend on my scenery/terrain and painting up some ships/planes. I've probably spent close to $500 to try to win $200 (shhh don't tell the wife). Hopefully have something in 3-4 weeks at the rate I'm going. If I miss that deadline its off to the land of the rising sun... without my terrain boards. I'll keep you posted.

I will participate; I will have something done by July 1 (2.5 months). Whether the contest materializes or not, I'll put one together and post it on my website worst case scenario. Paul, your's sounds great :D Can't wait to see it.

Are you looking for something like the 'I am a wargamer' video or could it be something like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDZdHhfbAqE ?

Both the "I am a wargamer" and the video linked above are great. Obviously since GHQ is giving the prize, we would like to have the videos promote our products, but if someone did a great promotional piece like the "I am a wargamer" that would be great for the hobby. For years we have been pushing the whole hobby of historical miniatures gaming, not just GHQ. Any videos that people put together could help out with pitching the hobby to new people. If we get enough people to commit to a video for the contest (in the past we have said 5+), then we will put the contest on. If we get more than 5 entries, then we will have the moderators narrow the entries down to 5, and ultimately ALL OF YOU (the registered forum members) will vote and chose the winner.

Thanks,
GHQ

Hi All, I wanted to bring this up again... we talked about having a deadline of July 1; I'm on track for that deadline and some filming was done this last Sunday.

Paul, Luca, Cama, rdenman62.... you guys had a chance to work on this at all? GHQ mentioned they needed "5" entries to get the voting going. I'm counting on you guys :D

Anyone else interested in giving it a go? We've got 3 weeks left.

take care,
Tanner
