Hi Cama:

There are lots of good, non-drudgery rule sets out there! I guess it depends on what scope game you want to play. If you want to refight entire battles maneuvering brigade and divisions, try Age of Eagles (a Fire & Fury variant). For more tactical fights take a look at General de Brigade.

Other popular choices are Shako II (an orders driven system), Grande Armee (very different but I am a big fan), and Le Feu Sacre. I have more information on these at my own web site here:

If you want something fairly simple, Wellington's Rules should work. I'm a Piquet addict, and my favorite is Les Grongards, which allows you to play at the company, battalion or grand tactical level. A new "streamlined" version of Piquet that might serve better would be Field of Battle. Before you decide, you might try to get to an HMGS convention near you and try out several sets of rules to find what feels best to you.
