This is in reference to the example at the bottom of the first column and top of the second column on page 42.

Three flights of Betty bombers are carrying 1000 lb AP bombs. The net modifier is -1. The Bettys roll 7, 15, and 19, achieving one hit.

Since each flight has 6 aircraft, then 6 bombs are dropped per flight. Doesn't the roll of 15 modified to 14 result in a NEAR MISS in addition to the hit achieved with the roll of 19?

Yes, you are correct in your reading of the example listed on p.42. It should read "achieving one near miss and one hit".
