Can anyone suggest a way I can play a solitary skirmish? Are there any rules out there anywhere? :?

I can't think of any specific rule sets currently that support solitare play. I would suggest that you could come up with a half dozen or so offensive and defensive schemes that would include the composition and initial disposition of the forces. You can establish some basic victory conditions and then randomly select one offensive and one defensive scheme to set up and play. For an additional element of the unknown you could also create some reinforcement options and roll dice for what turn they appear and randomly select the reinforcement units like you did for the initial setup.

Example of WWII US reinforcement options:
1) 4 Sherman tanks, 2 M3 halftracks, 2 infantry squads
2) 2 Stuart tanks, 4 infantry squads
3) 1 Jackson tank destoyer, 2 Sherman tanks, 4 infantry squads
4) 3 Boy Scouts with a slingshot and a rabid dog

Your mileage may vary, but you get the basic idea.

I hope this helps.

I've just been trying a couple of old Avalon Hill boardgames that are great for solitaire play.

They're "B-17 - Queen of the Skies" and "Patton's Best".

"Patton's Best" would probably suit for use with GHQ figures and is good fun. It also teaches you what a Sherman can engage and what it needs to avoid.

The rules (and a lot of other parts) can be downloaded at:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4556

Give it a go - it's good fun.

Thanks for the info

Thank you for your prompt replies. I went to the websites and got an enormous amount of information (I am not alone!). The websites were really good, as I am just starting off with GHQ. :D :D

Seek out options at boardgamegeek.com There are a lot of wargamers on the site that use board games for solo play, many can be converted into miniatures by swapping a terrain table for a mapsheet and minis for chits.

Patton's Best has been mentioned several times.

I wouldn't advise trying solo skirmish in 6mm, but the Two Hour Wargames rules are very well suited to solo or cooperative play.

Solitaire play should be fun

Sepp,

I turned to a Talonsoft product called East Front, a computer game that had a 2D and 3D viewing. The 3D viewing during the game gave the feel of Miniature Wargaming. I have played so many of their scenarios, several of them many times each.

I primarily play ASL as a Wargame, Advanced Squad Leader, and ASL has its own Solitare rules for Play. I even created 3D terrain with the Terrain Maker Hexes and GHQ mini's for more realism.

Check out my posting in this forum, its on page #5, a third of the way down.

Good Luck,

I tried that. They grow up and leave. Now I'm hoping for grandkids to shower with gifts at Christmas.

HUmmmmmm.

I could charge lonely wargamers to come play with them. Let them win by making really stupid moves so they can come to the forum and crow about how great they are.

Worth about $50 an hour x 4 hour game? Plus $.32 a mile for travel and pay for lodging?

Cool 8) Who's up for a game? Cash in advance

No worries I've play alot of solitare wargames as well.

Of course, some players prefer solo gaming to get away from opponents with an over-inflated sense of their own self-worth. :)

I think some of you might be adding the word 'lonely' to the equation where it doesn't exist. Sure, solo gaming may be the only outlet for some players, but it also lets us experiment with variations and situations that need interest only us. I was skeptical myself until I gave it a try.

And best of all, no 'gamer funk' or annoying quirks to put up with!

Yeah my solo partner is late and cusses way to much with I have good die rolls.

He also cheats by not following the play sequence.
