Thought I would add a plug for the carrier deck markings for the WWII ships. Don't know how many of you join me in pouring over every decal sheet picture in the fliers or actual sheets in the hobby shops looking for anything with some thin white lines or other items we can butcher to get those markings...and they just don't look right without em. Some decal sheets with these markings sure would be nice.

I agree. It would be great if GHQ could create a line of decals for their WW2 Micronauts aircraft carriers.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that we might see something in the near future. Pretty please...

I know someone who has expressed an interest in doing these. He does them for other ranges and they're stunning - planes on the decks, etc.
What he needs are samples. So if someone really wants to make this happen he might work a deal - you send him your carrier. He makes a sheet he can sell, then he sends you your carrier back with a free decal for your trouble.
If he drops by and sees this (he drops by once in a while) maybe he can chime in?

I would also be very interested in flight deck decals for all WWII aircraft carriers, but not with images of aircraft on the deck. I prefer to mount actual aircraft on the deck at this scale.

My hat's in as well. I would buy these up in a heartbeat.
Would he need completed models, or just the hull/deck?

I e-mailed him the idea and asked him to drop by this thread...
Carrier Deck Decals

I would definately buy deck decals for the carriers.. particularly the Japanese variety. For the US carriers if someone could just produce a variety of solid/dashed lines and hull numbers for the flight deck (in both a light grey and agreyblack color), I'd buy those too!
Not Decals, but works

I agree, I'ld buy the decals in a second if they were available. What I've resorted to is accryllic paint ( white, red or other ) slightly watered down,. I then use an elevated flat edge ruler and a technical ink pen ( Mars ) to do the dashes or lines. The "00" makes a fine line.
I also use it to put Hull numbers on the bows for indentification. That works well enough using black ink for the pens if you have a steady hand.

Hi fellas-
I'm the guy Crispy is talking about. (Thanks Crispy!) So far I've only done deck art for Figurehead 1/6000 ships. But I am looking at jumping up to 1/2400 scale if there is enough interest. You can see my work at Toshach Miniatures.

Thanks Cama.
Dunno if you've actually seen the window decal stock, but it is really thin--not as thin as water decal stock, but very thin. It will certainly cover the deck detail of the model, but that is replaced with rendered details.
Regarding the planes on the decks, I'm not partial to them myself. On the 1:6000 ships hey look fine, but on the larger modles they'd look too flat. Besides, the GHQ carrier aircraft are really nice.
I think I might have a couple of old CnC carriers hiding somewhere. If I can find them, I'l run a test and we can see how the bigger sizes look.
Thanks again.

I recently got a GHQ CV-6 and since there wasn't any decals available I figured I would make my own for the entire flight deck. Since I don't have access to a printer that can print white, I figured I would paint the ship a light color (model masters acrylic light gray) and all of the unprinted space on the clear decal would be close enough for white (especially for the scale). There are some minor fit issues with the island gun turrets, which I didn't realize had square bases until after the decals were made. Also, at least on my decal paper, the decal expanded slightly once on the model, and has almost an extra deck plank of length at the stern. When printed on transparency film for a test, the dimensions were correct, so I may have stretched it slightly when applying.

Island with some windows. The bridge windows should be round but oh well
Here is a link to the .pdf file used to print these for anyone interested.

If you print these, just make sure you turn off any "page scaling" in the print menu of Adobe.
I don't plan on doing the rest of the carrier fleet as this was just a project to go along with some 1/2500 scale Star Trek Enterprises. I also don't want to discourage Tom of Toshach Miniatures from doing the rest of the fleet, as his 1/6000 versions look excellent.
