I have a question about this pack. The detail is excellent....and the model will paint up beautifully. The only issue I have, is there are holes on the turret for the AAMG, but no AAMG's are provided in the pack. Is that a mistake, or is it typical now to order the AAMG's separately?

I think it is "normal". I have the same pack without MG's. I also have many older packs of other models that did not come with MG's. However, I do wonder if this is the intent. The halftrack packs come with MG's.

Could be a packing error. I ordered some M3 Half-tracks once that did not come with the housing or MGs. I e-mailed GHQ about the error and they very kindly sent me the missing pieces. I would contact GHQ directly to see if an error did occur in this case.

I just took a look at tthe picture of the M26E4 Super Pershing #N539 and it does not show an AAMG on the model. Is this model you are referring to? If it is I would say the MG is not included.

Did the Super Pershing ever come up against T 34/85 in Korea ?

Super Pershing never deployed to Korea. Towards the end of WW-2. It was fielded. But it had a modified gun mount for a long barrel 90mm. It also had a hydroneumatic gun mantle mount for elevating.

The GHQ model Super Pershing is a T26E4. This version does not have the external hydropneumatic gun elevation tubes.

Any of the experimental Pershings that mounted longer / more powerful 90mm guns were referred to as "Super Pershings". The GHQ model is a particular version, the T26E4.

The T26E4 never deployed anywhere. It was an experimental/developmental model. IF any of the various upgraded versions collectively known as "Super Pershing" had ever entered production, this is the most likely version. However, it did not enter production.

The Super Pershing that was deployed to Europe at the close of WW2 was the T26A1E2. It is a different beast than the E4. 2 such tanks were built and sent to the 3rd Armored Division in early 1945.

The E2 used two-piece ammunition for the elongated 90mm gun. The E4 used a different gun with single-piece ammunition. The E2 had twin side-by-side external tubes for the hydropneumatic gun elevation gear. The E4 did not. Only 2 E2s were sent to ETO, and only one saw any action. That E2 (and probably the other) had extensive armor added to hits frontal aspects in the 3AD ordnance shops. There is no evidence that any E4s were up-armored, and certainly not with welded-on plates cut from recovered Panthers (as the E2s were).

It would not be too difficult to kit-bash the GHQ T26E4 Super Pershing into a T26E2 Super Pershing. Both have the same hull, same gun barrel with muzzle brake, same turret (with large counter-weight on the back to compensate for the very long and heavy gun). You would need to add two long narrow tubes side-by-side running front-to-back on the top of the turret to the right of the gun, and add a flat applique armor plate to the mantlet, and add applique plates to the glacis and lower hull, forming a V where they join in front of the bow. The bow MG should have a cut-out from the glacis plate.

The GHQ Super Pershing model fits within the what-if of the Wehrmacht '47 line, but not within the historical gaming line. It is a version that was never sent anywhere to do anything.

Experimental kit seems to be in fashion this year. I noticed the other day there is a release for FOW of experimental AFVs.

Not really my cup of tea, but you can have some pretty fearsome machines on the table.

The T26E4 designation is a bit confusing because the "super-pershing" sent to Europe was a T26E1 with the T15E1 90mm installed but was redesignated "T26E4, temporary pilot number 1". Thank God for Hunnicut and his Pershing book!

MK1 I think you got the ammo info flipped. The super-pershing that was actually sent to Europe had the T15E1 gun with fixed 1 piece ammo. The "Wermacht 47'" T26E4 would have the T15E2 90mm with seperate ammo (see Hunnicut p.140-141).

Well....the Pershing models are great.....and I painted a couple up in rather short order for a game I was running. They really do look nice. BUT....there is a hole in the damn turret for the AAMG and I think GHQ should include it in the pack. If not, then there should be a pack of AAMG's I can order. I probably can lift them from some old packs....or CinC stuff I have....but for $9.95, please, put in the AAMG's!
