FOW, again.

Post by JimF »

I'm thinking of trying Flames Of War rules using micro armor. I did a search for threads regarding this. Found 5 that were fairly long, however, A) there was a lot more discussion over the good/bad points/features of FOW and B) the latest info I found was posted 2 years ago. One poster even stated how FOW was dying and minis were available at 75% discount! Must be a awfully slow death, as it's still being played and sold, as far as I can see.

I don't want to start another discussion regarding FOW itself, I'm just interested to hear from anyone who is playing, or has played, FOW with micro armor.

If there is a much more current thread regarding this than what I found, could someone post a link?

Thanks.

Jim

FOW is designed to be used with 15mm so if you want to play FOW with 6mm Micro Armor, just cut all movement and ranges in half and play. There are no other modifications needed.

Why not use the game just as it is but in 5/6mm scale. We've tried it very successfully. Will

Thanks for the replies.

In the threads 2 years ago, there were people talking about trying just those ideas, as well as others. I was looking for info as to how it worked out.

My main reason is the playability factor. I'm not as interested in the finer details (angle of shot, armor thickness in great detail, speed of round, etc..) as I used to be, and don't have the free time to play games lasting several long hours. From all I've read re: FOW, games (and I realize FOW is more game than sim) are more abstract, but play much quicker.

I can't see why it won't work perfectly fine. To me the ranges in FOW seem to be a bit short so using GHQ models will give a stretched out feel. That's an improvement in my opinion. The only potential problem I see is GHQ might not make every unit type in FOW, but there is a big selection for you none the less. Really, there is nothing different between the two other than the scale.

Actually, I would say the reverse would be the problem. FOW has been around for how long? They have yet to come out with any early to mid war kit.

I guess if you can have a whole army of Tigers on the board, who would want Pzr I models? :?

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't studied both mfrs lists, but I know GHQ has just about all I would want, or at least need. I do know that FOW has some vehicles they call 'mid war monsters', like a German Dicke Max and Staurer Emil, and a Brit Boarhound aermored car, but to me, those are more exotics. And yes, there is lots of griping amongst FOW gamers (at least on some forums) that Battlefront did the 'monster' stuff instead of early war. To me, that's just another sign that they target the Warhammer 40k gamers, who have come over to FOW.

I play both GHQ and FoW. You could try it, but what your going to find is more of the issue with the teams themselves. Differences in LMG teams and HMG teams and Bazooka teams, and etc etc can make it difficult
