Washing figs before painting

OK very basic question here. The instrux I got with the command boxes said there was no need to wash the figs first before painting. I tried it and it seemed to work OK. The question is why not? I've had disastrous results with other company;s figs without washing first.

Thanks!

Some types of molds require a coating of lubricant to ensure clean release of the molding. This lubricant interferes with the adherence of subsequent paint applied to the model. Therefore, you need to wash the model to remove any residual lubricant before painting.
Apparently, GHQ either does not use such a lubricant for their molds or cleans the figures before shipping them.
Although not really required, I wash all my models from all manufacturers.
