PaK40 and Sd11 pack

Post by piersyf »

I just got a Pak40 and Sd11 pack... I notice in the on-site photo the canvas cover is on the vehicle. The models I got have the cover separate but they will not fit on the vehicle unless I do a fair bit of carving and filing. Is this right? It seems quite inconsistent with GHQ's normal practices (the Sd10 has both raised and folded roof canvas and you glue whatever is appropriate; this is the first time I've seen a requirement to physically modify a casting to glue on the option).

Hey Piersyf

Yes, this is an issue. On the other German tracked prime movers, the modeler has a choice of gluing either the folded tarp or the deployed tarp because both are provided as separate pieces. For some reason, it was decided to have the folded cover on the Skfz 11's molded on which requires some surgery to remove and smooth out enough to allow the deployed cover to be glued on.
There is also a situation with the German 6 wheeled armored car where a hatch or some other protrusion on the top of the turret needs to be removed. I can't remember exactly but I believe this is for the addtion of the frame antenna. A better solution for us would have been to make the "hatch" as a separate piece.

Thanks Pete, wasn't sure if I was missing something really obvious, or if the parts got mixed in the packing. I think they'll just stay open topped...
