New "Irregular" Moderns

Just saw the e-mail for the new "Irregulars". My heart leapt when I saw the announcement! Finally, modern irregulars!!!
Then I looked at the photos.
These are some of the most
regular irregulars I've ever seen. They must eat their fiber every morning.
Seriously, all of their kit is the same and their helmet style screams Soviet-bloc. They're clearly wearing uniforms. They look like any other regular GHQ army I already own.
I might buy some simply because I'm a sucker for modern 6mm figures. These will make outstanding generic regular troops (NOT irregular). Anyone buying these purely from a catalog listing WILL be disappointed.
I really do wish GHQ would spend some time filling the vaaaaast, gaping, chasm that prevents modern gamers from gaming, well, nearly every modern conflict fought in the last 20 years: the Irregular Infantry gap.
Essentially these should be ragtag modern civilians in street cloths and armed with a variety of small arms from rifles to LMGs to the ubiquitous RPG. In the middle east head gear is either nonexistent or maybe a keffiyeh. In Chechnya and the Balkans maybe winter headgear if any. Heck, make them generic and leave the head gear off and I'd still be happy.
Suggestion: use these same sculpts as a baseline sans helmets and backpacks. Make the "web gear" and footwear more random. That alone would be a great starting point for truly irregular troops.

Whow, and for a minute I thought it was me and I was seeing things!

Where, o where did anyone think these would represent irregular third world troops?

I mean, come on, where does anyone think these type of troops could have and/or would have frought, the Balkins, perhaps? In the last thirty to fourthy years all we have seen is young men, and women for that matter, in cilivan clothes armed to the teeth with what they could lay thier hands on to fight whatever war, cause, and/or enemy they they were told by their elders was the great, noble, and/or a holy cause. That's what makes them irregular troops, they look like the rest of the civilians when they loose the weapons. Don't get me wrong guys, I love all your products, but, really, I think you missed the boat on this! So, If one may ask, what did you base these figures on? The world wonders?

The rifle is different but the helmet and uniform look very close...these troops are from Georgia.

Bravo, Timothy! Now, can anyone else give us some clue as to where these type of troops could of and/or would of been used?

Disappointed.
I guess you could pick out the standard infantry and call them 2nd/3rd World Armies. A lot of South and Central American forces would look like these (minus the missile systems).
Not what I was hoping for, however.

Sorry about being so blunt but is GHQ out of thier freeking minds? There is abosulty nothing irregular about these figures! WTF!
Was so looking forward to my bush warriors having someone to fight. Now am I supposed to wait another year at least to start gaming the bush wars of the Cold War?
Maybe they will do for W Germans or Banana Republic Goverment troops but calling these irregular is total misrepresentation.
So now another year!

Yeah, they are not irregulars, but they will do well in Central and South American countries. I think I would have liked to have seen a recoilless rifle instead of so many 81mm mortars in the heavy weapons pack.

Gotta remember too guys, the Irregular Infantry are also sporting several different weapons, such as the German G3 Rifle and MG3 (LMG) as well as LAW, plus the Irregular Heavy has the Milan ATGM...so its a mixture of stuff for sure.
The German rifle and mg are used by various countries...so a mixture of NATO and Russian gear is rather interesting and if I didn't know any better, and perhaps I'm wrong, but the Irregular Infantry helmets almost look like the early German Bundeswher helmet...just my opinion is all

the closest thing I see them resembling is West German infantry of the 60s-80s; not very 3rd world in the least in any case. But I do see them as being the first truly labeled as such "irregular" when compared to real 1/285th scale...

ROFL.
I recently picked up an ebay auction for some of GHQ's original 1/285 scale soldiers. They look like children when compared to the latest super troopers. At least they're the same scale as the vehicles so I can use them as crew figures.

I might use these as German or possibly Dutch troops, and keep hoping for some truly irregular infantry.

Ridiculous, 95% of the warfare in the last 35 years have involved people in t-shirts and jeans as insurgents on at least one side and GHQ continues to make it impossible to fight any of these wars with their line of figures. So once again they miss the boat and once again I have no reason to buy the vehicles and figures they do make for any modern conflicts.
I posted a list awhile back of dozens of vehicles and troops packs that have no use unless you have jihadi insurgents to fight against them.

I guess it's nice to get some 'regular' infantry to better model Iranian, Pakistani ad Turkish forces, but I would never have called these irregulars.
So many good ideas for irregulars have been posted on this forum over the last year, why would this be what was chosen to create?

Dunno; at first glance I thought these guys were more 'regular' than not, but here's the thing for me... as has been stated irregulars are just not the regulars... so they may have uniforms supplied through e-bay these days... the weapons are a decent mix (I doubt the average red neck off the street could use a Milan, but most could follow the pics on a LAW and use it). Helmets could come from any disposals store, as can the webbing...
so my challenge to anyone game enough to try is to have a shot at painting them appropriately as street revolutionaries; instead of combat boots, how about painting a pair of converse basketball boots? Instead of a battle jacket, grey track pants and a black jacket with some dodgy skull and crossbones thing going on the back. Maybe even a football jacket. I think the big issue with the pic was that the uniforms are, well, uniform.
I agree that we could still use some plain civilians with guns, but these are OK for generic modern rebel types (although I bet they're closer to 10mm than 6mm).
