Help with Lancia Truck Assembly

The Lancia truck models are beautiful but I'm afraid I can't get the two pieces to fit together. The frame that includes the tires does not fit at the front within the truck body. I see that the truck body cavity at the front needs to be widened or the frame at the front wheels needs to be narrowed. I've bent them all up almost to the breaking point trying to get them to fit in. I don't want to keep this up as I don't want to break the frame. I've tried filing them down but it's just not removing enough material.

Does anyone who has built these have any good suggestions?

Sometimes I really wonder if the guys that design these things ever actually try to assemble them!

Thanks for your help! I am anxious to get these built, they are really cool trucks. I'm going to use them as purloined Afrika Korps infantry trucks.

I've noticed the same thing. I compared the recent purchases with some that I bought 10 years ago (and still haven't assembled  ) and found that while the chassis parts were identical, the body parts were not. The problem is that on the underside of the body the walls of the cavity where the chassis tongue is supposed to fit are twice as thick as they used to be. Consequently the cavity is too narrow - by about 1mm. Either the mold is worn out or it was a sloppy rework.

You have two ways to go on this. If you have a dremel you can use it to mill the excess material out of the body cavity. If you have only a file (a flat jewelers file will do) you can remove material from either side of the chassis tongue - probably the easier of the two. Remove material until the tongue goes in easily. If you try to force it you will cause the wheels to cant inward at the top and they will pinch against the body walls.

Best of luck.
