9th Divisional Cavalry North Africa Australia

I want to field the 9th Divisional Cavalry Regiment unit from Australia in North Africa. From the research I found the unit was comprised of:
3 Bren Carriers per troop
3 Lt. Tanks per troop

3 Bren Carrier troops and 2 Lt. Tank troops per squadron plus 2 LTs and 2 BCs for SqHQ

3 squadrons per regiment plus 4 LTs and 2 BCs for RgtHQ

I did not see any associated infantry (BC passengers) but the men total 37 officers and 420 other ranks.

In Micro Armor rules I think the vehicle minatures should be the following:
3 LTs (2 Troops plus 1 HQ) and 4 BCs (3 Troops plus 1 HQ) per Squadron
3 squadrons per Rgt plus 1 LT and 1 BC for RgtHQ.

Agreement? Ideas?

We have been using 3 LTs and 3 BCs per squadron with one of each for Regimental HQ making a total of 10 each for a regiment without any infantry stands.

You can just see stands from A Squadron in the upper left of the picture above. Will

I like your unit markers - very professional. Are the adhered to the stand from underneath? The stands look to be 1X1.

Did you mount your armour to the stand or use a magnet with steel base?

Wolfman, We use metal bases for GHQ rules based units.
This link: http://commandoperationscenter.com/products111.htm will take you to a page of information on bases with several options.

I do use self sticking paper with all the unit combat data on the bottom of the base and the ID tag folded over so it clearly identifies the unit in question.
I've changed to this system after experimenting with many different systems as the various illustrations on that page will show. In large games clear Unit ID is critical for a good game with players who don't know every piece of equipment on the table.

Incidently I have just joined this forum, looking at getting back into gaming after 10 years out.

I am interested in WW2 Russian Front for the amount of different scenarios.

Also looking at the Australian/Commonwealth campaign in Syria 1941, which 9th Div Cavalry took part. Very interesting battles, the Australians at the time were pretty poorly equipt, fighting the vichy French. Also included a wargamers dream- Vichy French Foreign Legion Battalion taking on a Free French Foreign Legion Battalion!! You can see it was definetely a case of putting the regiment before all else for those boys!!

For all things Australian, I suggest the www.awm.gov.au page (Australian War Memorial), where you will find the official histories. Not a lot of information about ORBAT, but a lot of deatail about small unit actions, really shows the challenges that Battalion and Coy commanders faced on the ground.

Obviously I live in OZ, so looking at putting in a big order tto GHQ to restart my Miniatures collection.... unless anyone can tell me the best place to buy Micro-armour within OZ?

Hey RFSU! My advice is use the online ordering for either GHQ or CinC figures. GHQ are very good at their deliveries (average 10 days from order to arrival in Melbourne); CinC are a bit slower, but their packaging is better (actually, the packaging contributes to the slowness of their deliveries... they seem to get held up in customs a lot. Longest I waited was 7 weeks for a CinC order to clear customs).

As for others, Scotia and Raiden are OK for deliveries as well (from the UK), averaging around 14 days from order to arrival. I haven't ordered from Heroics and Ros since it moved to new owners, but it has to be an improvement over the previous owners (Navwar) where it could take weeks just to place the order.

Basically GHQ are the best for quality and service, but obviously they are also the most expensive and don't have a complete range. Like the rest of us, you'll need to figure what best suits your needs/wants. Have fun with it!

RFSU, Thanks so much for the links. I had found one of them but not the other. Due to work, I have not been painting much but I do have Aus. Inf. in primer as well as some Bren Carriers, and some MkIV Light Tanks. I just black washed 10 Crusaders today that can also be used but was going for the MkIVs for the 9th. I might round out the Aus. forces in North Africa. Reading about their exploits was a lot of fun. I am not a very good painter yet but will post pics when I get them battle ready.
