Scale sizes

Hello

Question for all of you out there. When gaming with 1/2400 ship size, and there is ships missing that are not made in 1/2400 scale, but are in 1/3000th. Is the difference in size that noticable? I mean does a 1/3000th BB look the same size as a 1/2400th DD? I mean is it something I as a gamer can get away with? I posted this question on another website forum and got several different thoughts and ideas. Just wondering what most of you on here think.

The sad thing about wargamers die hard ones that is. After so many years we want the obscure rarely made model, ship, tank etc... That big companies like GHQ, would make little to no profit from. Unlike the panthers, tigers, shermas everyone needs them more than we need a 1865 version of the Rurik.

you will absolutely notice the difference in size of the same class battleship on the table/board.

Sad, but true. Mixing scales is a real distraction and just doesn't look right, your battleships look like cruisers and so on. You are better off staying with a different ship in the same scale as long as you can identify what it is supposed to represent. On something like a destroyer it is not as obvious, but with a capital ship it is pretty easy to spot the difference. Putting a label on the base will minimize the confusion for record keeping purposes during a game.

I purchased a few 1/3000 British pre-dreadnoughts for evaluation, and I have to agree that the difference in scales is very noticeable (not to mention the vast gulf in quality between GHQ and these crude 1/3000 scale models).

Also, if your naval rules use the size of the ship in any way (as the Supremacy at Sea rules do for torpedo calculations and blocking fire) then the size difference will affect play.

Good point Ed*b The rules set we play with the torpedo arcs, estimates etc.. would be a nightmare with the different range in size of models. We use a more in depth set wont really say, but it does also take in length of ship.

I think i will just suffer thru trying to find other suppliers. Its just im so use to the GHQ quality, then you see others and you get disappointed.
