I'm going to London in a few days.
Does somebody know if there's a shop in Central London selling GHQ Micro Armor?

There are no shops in London that sell GHQ products. London is very poorly served when it comes to wargaming supplies. There are a couple of stores that sell fantasy figures but that is all there is.

I hope you enjoy your visit but I'm afraid you won't be able to take any wargaming souvenirs home with you.

Virgin Megastore along Oxford Street used to, but that was years ago.

Don't know if it still does. Maybe phone them beforehand to check and save a wasted journey?

I haven't been to London in 10years, so maybe someone that goes to Oxford Street could confirm?

Virgin Megastores no longer exist. They sold out to a company called Zavvi a few years ago and they in turn have ceased trading.

Unfortunately pretty much everything is bought online these days so there are virtually no high street retailers of wargaming products - especially in London where rents are prohibitively high.

In London, the Orc's Nest is worth a visit if you are looking for fantasy stuff and a new fantasy store has recently opened in Waterloo. There's also Tradition of London that sells old-fashioned toy soldiers but that's about all there is.

If you want to actually walk into a shop and buy GHQ stuff over the counter I think you'd have to go to Sheffield and visit the Wargames Emporium.

I think I will go and visit Orc's Nest while my daughter is looking to complete her collection (clothes)

The Orc's Nest is very small but friendly. They stock a good range of very cheap acrylic paints - so you could stock up on those if nothing else.

Foyle's Bookshop is nearby and they have quite a good military history section where you could kill some time while your daughter trawls Oxford Street. Motor Books in Cecil Court is also just down the road and also stocks lots of books on military subjects.

I hope you enjoy your stay (though I suspect your daughter's shopping expedition will be a lot more satisfying than yours is)

I was some what surprised to see that there weren't that many stores catering to the wargamer market the last time I was in the UK, considering how much more popular the hobby is over there as opposed to here in Canada. I guess the internet has blown a big hole in over the counter sales of minis the last several years, too bad. I can remember when you were able to outfit a whole reg't of GHQ at CanGames, now they are regulated to the "fire" sale bins...the good news is they are usually dirt cheap, but with almost no selection.

Also, a shame about the Virgin Megastores my cousin and I stopped by one in Scotland back in '88. It was the fist time I saw RPG kit being sold in a mainline store (also the first time I saw the Paranoia RPG, great fun that.)


I hope you enjoy your trip to London and as it has been said the book stores are really great. There are no shortage of other military history type fares in the city either, I recommend the Guards museum just down the road from the Palace and of course the IWM,

As suggested by others, London is poorly stocked when it comes to ghq. Plenty of places to buy paints from general model shops etc but no armour.

We get all our micro armour online from magister militum, who are pretty good.

Military books were the other part of my shopping list. I'm really looking forward to my visit of the IWM (which surprisingly my daughter wants to visit, too).
I heard that there weren't many wargaming shops in the UK either because of the Internet or the many weekend wargaming shows all over the country. Usually I order my GHQ from Magister Militium as well - it's the best offer I can get from Germany.

Even if you are not really into GW, like myself, and you find yourself in Nottingham Warhammer World is still worth the stop. If for nothing else the fantastic job they did on their figure museum. I say a lot of negative stuff about their games and business polices, but those GW dudes can really paint.
