Well I finally have the space to set up a decent sized gaming table. I'm having a few friends over to play in November. I'll post some pics. Scenario will most likely be fictional in nature. A German thrust thru US lines, seize some river and stream crossings, towns and villages. Size of table is about 4' x 8'. Using GHQ Micro Armor rule set.

That is a nice layout you have, really enjoy looking over your pictures and hope you'll post an AAR.

I recognize some of your buildings and used your technique to make some of my own. Not as good as what you have but they seemed to have worked out. Even used your apartment buildings. Some I used plastic to mount the wall papers but found just printing and then folding worked.

Hope you will post more pictures of your work.

Awesome layout of the town. Simply s magnificent game table.
If only I had that much space and expertise in making such a great landscape with all the fine detailing of houses and bridges.

great Job though!

Very nice indeed... :D 8) 8)
I have been thinking about getting some hex terrain to build some for micro gaming and the more I see pictures of it like yours, makes me want to get them even more :)
I look forward to seeing more pictures as they come along :D

Wow, that's amazing! What a great landscape. Some awesome details there too, like chimneys, fences and village gardens. Thanks for inspiring.

I wanna play at Mike's house next month. Can
I? Huh? Puhlease??

Really great work there. So much to see, to study, to learn. The bases for the farms and the town buildings, the telephone poles, the ramps for the pontoon bridge...

Great work!

Hi Sfcgreg29er

That is a really great layout! I enjoy working with the terrain maker stuff and it gives me a nice break once in a while from painting tanks and infantry.
I really like the steel cantilever bridge. Is this a commercial structure or did you make it yourself? I also really like the way you base your buildings. What did you use to base them?
I recognize the pontoon bridge. I bought a few of these from one of GHQ's competitors a few years back and have a couple of them done up for my rivers. They are nice but I would by another one or two if GHQ made them.
Thanks very much for showing us your great work.

Cool man! Very nice layout, that could prove to be the site of some promising games ahead no doubt, a fine board and it has been kept so simple, a town some forest farms etc. so to you good luck!

That is an awesome board. Something to set my sights to when I remodel my game board.

SFCgreg, You're in Maryland? Do you do moderns as well by any chance?

As promised. Pictures of the game...

This is the basic OOB.
German:
1 Regimental HQ
1 Armor BN Mk IV
1 Armor BN Mk V Panther
1 Armor BN Mk VI Tiger 1
2 Grenadier BN's
1 SP Artillery BN
1 Recon BN

US:
1 Armor BN Sherman
2 Companys of SP Tank destroyers
1 Infantry BN
1 Engineer BN
1 SP Artillery BN
mines and barbwire

Objective was for the German player to push thru and exit as many units as possible off enemy edge of battlefield.

German player was only able to push up to the the large hill in the middle of the battlefield with a company of grenadiers after about 6 turns and 8 hours of play. This was the first experience o playing micro armor for my friends who participated. Way too many units to push across the battlefield. Still had tons of fun and one of my friends just purchased some Russian armor.

German Armor traffic jamb. It was very slow going for the Germans since some well placed mines and arty fire on the approaches to all stream crossings really hampered his movement.

Germans never made it this far.
Image
This is what happens when you get flanked.
Image
As you can see the stream really held up the German advance. We played it that you could only cross at the bridges or ford.
Image
US arty BN and armor safe behind a hill.
Image
End of game. If you look close, a German grenadier company made it to the forward slope of the hill at the top center of the picture.

We used the GHQ rule set which plays fairly quickly once everyone had a firm grasp of the rules. Next time, I'll reduce the number of units.

Hi Mike

Your terrain, miniatures, and "special effects" all look first class. I especially like AAR's where you can tell that the person putting on the game has put in a lot of time on all aspects of the game. Great Job!

By the way, what did you use to make your explosions? I looks like it might be foam but any info you could share would be welcome. Thanks.
