Identify armor in the news
Well I spotted some vehicles in the news coverage of Egypt, but this thread could stick around for whenever military vehicles are featured in the news. Below is what I have seen so far. Feel free to add your own spottings:
Cadilac Cage Commando - Seen in the CNN Coverage of protestors swarming the vehicle
BTR-152 (open and close topped) - Seen patroling the streets, at least one open topped shown under attack from protestors.
UAZ-469 Seen in convoy
M113 (Not sure the variant, possibly A1 or A3 based on the GHQ models) seen in convoy

Man watchin the BBC is why more informative than cnn.![]()

I found the BBC new coverage in Tunisia and Egypt to be quite informative, interesting to see where this all leads up to. With Egypt in turmoil atm, it could be a 'What if' modern day war scenario

From what I have seen today in the footage in Cairo:
M60A3
M113A2
BMR-600 Wheeled APC
FAHD Wheeled APC
Anyone know which units have the M60A3's? Are they still front line, or have the M1A2s supplanted them? I figure they are being deployed since the old 105MMs can still fire APERS (Beehive). Unsettling...

I'd watch BBC if I got that station, but from what I got, CNN is the most centrist of the news stations I have available. Fareed is a pretty sensible guy, and AC never softballs anyone. I usually try to avoid their talk shows though, as the political debate is just as bad as any US news media station.
Anywho, during the day 2 coverage, a journalist mentioned that they were pulling back "the older tanks" and were bringing out M1s. He could be wrong, but seems to me that means the M60s were either part of a rapid deployment unit or belonging to a reserve or republican guard unit (my guess is republican guard, based on the brief research I did into it)

If you go to the DrudgeReport right now, they have a picture posted of an M-88A1 ARV guarding an intersection with the Pyramids looming in the background. First photo I have seen of anything Egyptian Army wise, besides the M-113 (with the .50 cal coupola shields and the rear hatch shields) the M-60 A3 and the Walid .
I thought I read somewhere that the Egyptians also use the YPR -765 (from surplus Dutch stocks) as well as the M-901 ITV. I guess they never got the Bradley to go along with the "home grown" M-1A1's.
Any leftover BMP's from the 73 war still putting around in the Egyptian Army?

If you want an idea of the variety and quantities of equipment of the Egyptian you may give a look at this site
Moreover thay have 300 EIFV (E for Egyptian) that is a modified and up-armoured M-113 with an M2 Bradley turret.
As a general comment I think that the arrival of M1 Tanks is not due to its better quality in respect of M-60A3 but to the quality of their crew or, in other words, to the expected loyalty of them
They have 750 YPR-765 and 290 YPR-765 PRAT (with TOW); 52 M-901.

If you want another good international news service (like, recognised as one of the top 3 in the world for the last 10 years) check out sbs.com.au/news/. They do use reporters from BBC and CNN, but not just edited clips, they get stories direct from them. SBS also show the news from other countries here, so I can watch BBC and CNN stuff, but I can also watch Al Jazeera if I want to. It's interesting seeing how the different services edit the stock footage.

Saw what looked like an MI-17 or possibly MI-8

Police vans appear to be the same make and model as used by Russian OMON and other internal security forces, only with more armor.

M60(A3?)

Pretty good drawing of M60 w/ MG Cupola

By the way, anyone see that video of the Egyptian Soldier in what looks like KLMK camo with the pistol pointed at the crowd? His expression is so haunting.
