Color of Tarps

All,
I'm looking to offset some of my trucks for both the Germans and the Russians. I know most tarps for the opel were grey (at least as far as I could tell from photos) but I was looking to do a dark/light tan/brown color. For anyone who has used humbrol paints do you have any suggestions? It has to be able to stand up to a wash that is turpentine based.

Hey Gunbunny
I use Humbrol paints for my painting. For German tarps I primarily use two colors. For a standard gray/black tarp I use #67 Panzer Gray and may lighten it a bit with white or sometimes even #84 Middlestone. It depends on whether or not I want to depict a new tarp or one that is faded due to weathering etc. Some German tarps appear almost black.
For my tan German tarps, I use #84 Middlestone. There is a picture in the GHQ catalog with my Opel Blitz. I used #84 for the tarp on that one.
For my Russian tarps, I use various shades and don't really have a favorite. I painted the Studebaker truck that is in the catalog. I can't remember exactly what I used but some sort of earth brown - either #26 or #29 with maybe a touch of an olive green type color added. Again, you might want to vary the color slightly from truck to truck so they don't look completely uniform unless they are all brand new arrivals from the factory.
For my British North Africa stuff, I used some #84 and some #26 mixed with white to give the faded look.
I hope this helps.

Mr Binpicker,
Yes it does immensely. I now, however grotesquely, attempt to replicate your catalog versions. Either wish me luck or send donations to my family for lost time for being/trying a perfectionist.

For those interested (I know I was) in the Repairing Panzers book there is a photo of an Opel Maultier where the tarp is camouflaged. It is a factory job (printed in the fabric) as the pattern ends at the seam lines. The vehicle itself is overall panzer grey, but the tarp appears tan plus something (B&W photo of course). The pattern is random patch/splotch. So it seems some vehicles were able to get printed cam tarps.
