i play gw's epic. and i've always thought GHQ should have gotten into scifi gaming. i mean, look at some of the epic tanks. terrible. not saying ghq could do gw stuff, but they already have ww2 rules, why not put them in a scifi setting and then make a expanding line of models. 6mm scifi gameing is where its at, nowadays.
future war commander, strike legion, gruntz, etc. alot of systems out for micro scale miniatures...and who could make them better than ghq?

Rather interesting topic. I can see why somebody would want GHQ to do something along that line...I was going to get into GW Epic 40k but it's just so damned expensive. $60 for 6 Space Marine Rhino's

GHQ did - kind of - back in the 1980's.

FASA created "Star Trek the Role Playing Game" back then and GHQ was contracted to create the miniatures for that game system. There was a bit of a falling out between them when it came time for the annual gaming awards and GHQ lost out to FASA because...FASA basically didn't acknowledge GHQ's work and that didn't sit well with anyone at the company (can't imagine why).

As far as I know, GHQ has never really considered getting into such minis again.

Thing is, GHQ, from my understanding, aims to create accurate recreations of existing systems. I can see them making models for an existing fictional universe, as StarCruiser indicated, but to come up with their own line of models based purely on their own creativity does not seem like the sort of thing GHQ would find a valuable use of their time. Why use all of that intricate design and sculpting man-hours to make something out of thin air in 100% detail when there are giant queues of requests for accurate models within their existing lines.

That being said, there are plenty of companies out there with very well made speculative/science fiction models, so its not something I think GHQ urgently needs to capitalize on.

As previously noted, we did lose a big miniatures award to the Star Trek miniatures that we designed. It wasn't great to design the winning miniatures, and not get the credit for them. At this time we don't have plans to get into sci-fi. We get requests for it pretty regularly. As it is, we are already spread pretty thin with all of the historical lines that we have. Does anyone remember all of the hub-bub from some long-time customers when we released the Wehrmacht '47?* We can't even imagine what the outcry would be if we went into sci-fi/fantasy miniatures!

*Since we have released the first of the Wehrmacht '47 miniatures, we have heard from a lot of people who said that they were initially against the introduction of the models, but now they see the merit in having those models available. In addition, many like the fact that by coming out with those, we have also come out with some of the Allies models that we maybe wouldn't have released.

My group plays GW's Space Marine using "Epic" scale individually based figures with the "standard GW rules", measurements and all. It makes for a great game where ground scale comes closer to matching the scale of the figures and terrain makes a real difference with sight lines, etc... The 2" minimum separation rule even works without looking hokey.


I realize this picture is pretty fuzzy but you can see the figures based on 1/2" square metal bases for easy storage and the "look" of the game in progress...

The '47 line fit perfectly into a Space Marine world, ...as do most of the mundane things like trucks, artillery, support stuff, etc... Take a close look at the T-95 or the Tortoise if you want an imaginative Imperial Guard tank or SPG.

As others have mentioned GHQ already does a Sci fi line - its called "Wehrmacht '47"!

But seriously there is some useful historical stuff in there and I would rather see GHQ complete some of their existing lines rather than add new ones.

There are plenty of manufacturers of 6mm sci-fi to use as stand-ins for GW, and all across the spectrum of quality.

There are few makers of 6mm moderns/historicals, and certainly few or none that compare to the quality of GHQ. I'd much prefer GHQ focus on their core competency, especially considering that there is so much to be done.

I'm a fan of Epic Armageddon, and as soon as I make some headway in my stack of Space Marine and Imperial Guard figures, I plan on writing up some army lists for GHQ Moderns using the same system.

I agree with others on this. Continue to build on the current production lines. I collect almost everything GHQ put outs, but I know I would not buy sci fy stuff.

Tell me this doesn't look like a SyFi tank...

Really? I haven't noticed. There seems to be plenty of interest in the fantasy games like WH 40K in 25mm and FOW in 15mm, but I haven't seen an epic game in 20 years. My vote is GHQ continue to concentrate on historicals. I'm not even into the fantasy WWII stuff. I'm sure GHQ will decide where to focus, but these are my thoughts on the subject.

I am not into the W 47 yet but i bought a pack of the tortises because they are so cool

Take a look at N538. It may be jingoism, but I think the T-95 looks even better than the Tortise.

While I understand why GHQ doesn't do sci-fi tanks it's disappointing that some very clean, crisp vehicles won't show up. Some mfgs vehicles are pretty darn crude compared to GHQ. The '47 line doesn't do anything for me so nothing to purchase there.
