New Zealand earthquake,

Post by dougeagle »

There was an earthquake in Christchurch NZ that has caused some major damage to
the city. I hope that our fellow gamers down there are safe and well.

:(

Saw the news and came to the forum to offer the same sentiment.

How about a role call of our Kiwi forum members? Sound off!

65 +/- folks dead and it looks like Christchurch Cathedral is done - just about collapsed completely...

Be safe down there.

Thanks guys for your support

I'm in Auckland so its the other end of the country, but there are quite a few Christchurch wargamers. Some have been contacted and are ok but a lot of the city is with power and phones.

The quake struck at lunch time so it was a bad time for the people in the CBD. The last quake in september was in the middle of the night and so there were no fatalities, but it weakened the buildings and caused lots of damage. Some people I work with live there but are all ok that I know of.

Sadly I think there will be more dead as there is a lot of collapsed buildings still to be searched. There are rescue crews coming from Aus, UK, Japan and the US to help out which is good. The rescuers can still hear voices in the rubble and people are still being rescued.

Dont know what else to say really

Cheers
Kieran

I would also agree with Kieran's sentiments. I am also in Auckland, at the other end of the country from Christchurch.
I have friends and family down in Christchurch, who are all OK.
I would like to thank the members of the forum for their support. I would also like to thank the members of the Emergency Services - local, national, and international, who have been, are still, and/or will be, working in the affected area.
