I just finished doing my taxes and now I'm wondering if all this metal should (or could) have been itemized as a non-reimbursed work expense. I guess since I'm now retired I'll never know.

No; too much fun to be work.

Perhaps you could say it is part of a therapy for your addiction to lead & claim it as a medical expense?

This won't work either; GHQ quit using lead alloys some time ago.

It is worth the effort to add it all up, ...as long as you continue to work with your old unit or a Reserve unit. In the Midwest we have the 24th Marines who appreciate a CPX now and then plus there's always JRTC at Ft. Polk, Ft. Hood, Ft. Sill, and I still get a couple trips a year to the NTC and 29 Stumps, etc., etc...
Fort Polk's Shugart Gordon Live Fire range...
My model of the range for the AAR theater...
Form an LLC and get yourself a contractor number. As retired you get preference in lots of areas.
Works for me... Will
