Hello and first question

Hi guys,
I´m pretty new to the forum and Micro Armour. I have experience with classic WH40k, some 20mm WWII and Modern games and FoW. Now i found Micro Armour and am waiting for my first miniatures...
As far as I haven´t got the rulebook yet, I need to have a answer to this:
Do single miniatures, i.e. a Panther tank, represent a whole tank platoon or is the game a 1:1 ratio concerning tanks an vehicles?
Any helpful support will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Ragnar65

Hello Ragnar65,
GHQ now publishes two very good game systems:
WWII MicroArmour: The Game and WWII Micro Squad: the 1:1 scale game.
MATG (microarmour the game) uses platoon scale maneuvering units (miniatures) while MS, as I understand it, uses individual vehicle and squad strength infantry units.
I've played MATG for a long time and like it for regiment to brigade sized WWII scenarios. It works well for battalion sized encounters too.
I'm still reading the MS rules (they share principles of the MATG system) and have yet to play them but I'd imagine they're really good for company to battalion sized games.

Hi RedLeif,
so MATG uses one miniature for a whole platoon? Which means 4 tanks represent one company?

Hi all, noone else there to answer my question?
Okay, to get a bit deeper into it - i saw the description of the rulebook at a online store. There´s said, that MATG uses 1 vehicle for 1 platoon. So far so good, but why are there 16 tanks in the Pz IV Company box? The title suggests, that 16 tanks form 1 Company (3 platoons with 5 tanks each plus 1 command tank). If 1 Tank represents 1 Platoon, this Company Box will deliver enough tanks for whole battallion, right?
I´d appreciate every hint that helps me to understand...

R65,
There is not necessarily any connection betwen the number of miniatures in the Combat Commands with any rule system including GHQ's. The CC boxes are 1:1 TO & E approximations of the individual combat and HQ elements in a typical company sized battlegroup, sometimes pure as in the case of the Panzer IV company or mixed as in the case of the 1944 Kampgruppe.
You should decide what rules set you want to use and buy according to their basing conventions.

Ah, okay, I got it...

So I´m right that with those Combat Commands i could equip a whole battallion when I play MATG and one company when i play MS.
Thanks for information.

Sorry I took so long to reply but we went on a short family vacation.
The combat command boxes are not organized to a particular TO&E in all cases.
Cav Dog is spot on though, pick a rule system and buy models to that set of rules. GHQ is very rule agnostic when it comes to packaging their models.
And you are also right on a Combat Command box will supply you with about a Battalion's worth of models at platoon scale or roughly a Company at 1:1 scale.

Well you're close. Not all combat commands come with everything to create a full battalion. For example...I bought this pack, linked below...
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/g157.html
which isn't a full DAK battalion of anything really. But gives you a good mix for a German Kampfgruppe. What I did with that combat command was I ordered for another pack of their German Panzer III F/G to help make an armoured battalion.
1- Panzer III F command tank,
2x Panzer III companies each with- 1x Panzer IIF, 3x Panzer III F
1x Panzer IV company with - 1x Panzer II, 3x Panzer IVF1
The infantry were just in a supporting company with recon and the 88. This gave me a full armoured unit to play with. Working on more infantry though.
However, if you go with
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/product1511.html
This will give enough tanks for a battalion each, using GHQ WWII The Game rules. But you get nothing else...no infantry, no recon cars etc.
Hope this helps,

Ragnar:
A slightly belated welcome to the forum!
To offer further explanation of some of what others have posted -- you will find that GHQ does not quite "package up" the whole game system the way you might have found with FoW.
GHQ has been primarily a model/miniatures producer for many years. Over time they have distributed several rulesets authored by others. But there are many rulesets for use at this scale, as you will see in the discussions on this forum. For example I have perhaps a dozen different rulesets that I've tried over the years.
MATG is a somewhat new case, where GHQ has actually worked with the authors to produce the ruleset, and publishes it as their own. It has gotten many favorable reviews from a lot of experienced gamers on this forum. The word is that it plays well, smooth and quick once you have a couple games under your belt to build familiarity, and produces results that have a strong ring of historical realism.
MS, the 1-to-1 unit scale rules, are brand new. We are still waiting for MS games to appear in the AARs thread. As I am a pretty committed 1-to-1 scale gamer, I am quite interested in these rules, and personally can hardly wait to see reports on how they play.
You will find that there are not only other rulesets, but also other miniature vendors at the scales GHQ produces. That may become important as you build your armies, for even though GHQ has about the widest product line available at this scale, they still don't make everything (yet?), and you may well find scenarios in the rules for vehicles, guns or troop types that GHQ does not produce.
So you will see that we sometimes discuss models produced by other companies in these forums (though without links to their webstores, please). The difference is, (to borrow a phrase from our hosts)... GHQ makes the best damned miniatures. On that, you will see pretty much unanimous agreement.
Good luck with your gaming, and do post a pic or an AAR when you get to it. We love to see the models and read the stories of the games!
