Yeah, it´s the normal macro function. Found out that it works best when the model is placed on a shet of white copypaper...

Here´s my first try to paint those micro-dwarfes. Seems to me to be microsurgery painting the infantry...



And the macrofunction is really unforgiving... But I think the next lot will be a bit better.

Micro surgery or not those are great infantry, i know they can be a pain in the behind but getting a result like that, its worth it in the end Are you using a gloss based paint

Does anyone else think that it is odd that you get N. African infantry in the German sample packs?

I don't find it odd. The sample packs are described as "... samples that generally include a tank or AFV, another vehicle, a cannon and some infantry."
N. African infantry is German, WWII, and infantry, so seems to fit OK into WWII German sample pack.
I would be a bit annoyed if the other items in the pack were a Panther tank, Raupenschlepper, and PAK 43/41.

Hello Guys,
thank you for feedback. Those men are DAK? Yeah, I wondered why the guys have no helmet and rolled up sleeves... So I should have painted them the appropriate colour.

I painted them with Vallejo Model Color, but sealed them with matt varnish from the DIY-Store. In real they look really matt, but the pics show something different. Had that problem few times before, have to change to Vallejo Matt Varnish...

I am very impressed by your painting and your modelling.
You say this is your first time with micro-armor? You must be a very experienced modeller in other scales to achieve such results on your first attempt!

Things that particularly impress me ...

- I can see the detail on your vehicles. You have a deft hand for highlighting and washing, that causes the details to pop out!
- I can see the faces on the infantry. And the details on the guns. That's some small stuff to be painting!
- You have flocked the bases of the infantry with a stunning combination of foliage stuff, on top of some good dirt-or-rock looking stuff. I pronounce you as a modeller who has the right stuff.
- The panther road wheels are dirty. We got a guy who has an eye for the details that make it look real. Gotta love it.

You are right that a macro lense can be un-forgiving. But your work stands up quite well.

As to the gloss ... hmmm, yeah, I gotta agree that it looks a bit glossy to me too. May be in part the photography. But for my experience I have found that I must avoid anything that says "matte" in favor of those that say "flat", and I have found that Testors Dullcoat beats any and every other top-coat to make model paints flat FLAT FLAT.

Oh yeah, and if anyone asks you why you have DAK troops with a Panther, you can look at them sideways and ask them if they are aware that German Volksgrenadiers seldom received such niceties as helmets, and more often went into action in the M43 field cap.

(But yes, those are the GHQ DAK troops, and yes that is an odd combination with a Panther... )

I wouldn't recommend Vallejo's matt varnish if you want your models to have a flat look. I would call Vallejo's matt varnish satin, not matt.
Testors dullcote is hard to get where I live, so I use Humbrol matt cote over a layer of Vallejo's varnishes (because it isn't water based and might solve the paint slightly). Usually I apply two layers of matt cote.

BTW, found my way to your site today. Great stuff, boy! I really appreciate your paperbuildings. Next thing I´m gonna try will be the church. But I´m afraid that those spines will drive me mad
