Hi,

as I already wrote on FB, the Puma is a bit disappointing as it is the prototype not the series vehicle of which the first have been delivered in December 2010. This is quite pity as the series version looks quite different, most notably it has six roadwheels instead of five.

The Tiger HAP looks very good to me.

Ben is correct, the Puma is a big miss. Fortunately, GHQ has shown over the years that they will eventually (probably not too far down the road) produce a correct version and then list the current item as a prototype version

First we would like to thank all of you for being GHQ customers. Without all of you, there could not be a GHQ. As much as we strive to produce the highest quality, accurate models in the world, it is possible that we can make a mistake. With that being said, if you do have a comment/criticism of a model and you would like to post about it, please be sure to include your sources. Over the last 45 years we have received countless e-mails from someone "who read a book once" who says that we have modeled something incorrectly. In 99%+ of those comments, our model was correct. When we make a model, we do a lot of research, and use multiple sources. That doesn't mean that it is impossible for us to make a mistake. However, it takes a lot of time to go through and verify information. Time that would be saved if the comment/criticism included where the information came from.

It is especially difficult on newer vehicles because often times some things are changed between the prototype that are shown, and when the equipment is actually delivered. We are fully aware of the Pumas with 6 road wheels. We have photos of the Puma in use with 5 road wheels that are from mid-2011. We looked through all of the information that we had and decided that the 5 wheeled variant seemed to be the one that was in use. If someone has photos, or printed information, of the 6 road wheeled variant in use, we would like to see them, and see where they came from.

The 5 wheels Puma where protoypr for development and testing and are those usually shown in photogrtaphs and you tube.

The serial production has 6 wheels as shown on the manufacturer site:

The first two serial Puma's (6 wheels) have beenm delivered on 6/12 2010. However they have been delivered to the Technical servlces for further testing and operational studies. The deliveries to operational units is foreseen starting from middle 2013.

JANES states in their webpage on the Puma (dated 12 Oct 11):

under Development:
"Production Puma AIFV have a number of modifications as a result of trials with the five pre-series vehicles. These will include an additional roadwheel either side making a total of six, an enhanced MTU diesel power pack and modifications to the turret system."

under Description:
"Suspension either side consists of six dual rubber-tyred roadwheels with the drive sprocket at the front, idler at the rear and three track return rollers."

Also included is this photo,

captioned:
"One of the first two production Puma IFV delivered to the German Army from the Kassel production line showing complete armour package and the remote controlled turret with MUSS soft kill system on top of panoramic sight (PSM)"

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the photo doesn't seem to show up. Do you know when the photo is dated? Unfortunately the information in Janes isn't always correct. Can you copy the full article and list the author? Does anyone have any recent photos in an actual German unit in service dated recently that they can share? Please don't just show us photos of a 6 wheeled variant, we already know that they exist. We try to do as much research as we can, but on the newly issued modern equipment it is difficult because often times things change, and sometimes the changes keep coming even after a vehicle has been delivered. We want to make sure that our models are as correct as possible, any helpful concrete information that you can share is much appreciated.

Apparently, when I log out of my company's (very expensive) JANES subscription, access to the link is lost.

It's true that JANES isn't always correct. However, the likelihood of JANES and the manufacturer (TAMMY's post) both being wrong seems remote.

I can print a copy of the entire article to pdf, but I'll need to verify that doing so doesn't violate the JANES subscription agreement. If posting it violates the terms of use, can I email it directly to GHQ?

Thank you for sending that to us Steve. We were leaning towards the 6 wheeled variant, after doing more research recently. We have looked through the information that Steve sent, and now feel with some certainty that the variant with the 6 road wheels is correct. We have contacted the designer who worked on this model and he is going to make the modifications immediately.

As we mentioned earlier, we strive to produce the highest quality, most accurate models available in any scale. It isn't easy, and this is especially true on the newest modern equipment. Things change regularly, and sometimes they will even change after the first deliveries have been made.

We thank all of you who have tactfully brought this to our attention.
