Hi guys,
the Weapons Data Sheets of MS WWII include some confusing data for the German 81mm mortars. I suppose, it will be the same data for MATG...
So here´s my question(s):
1. The 81mm Mortar is listed with a (1) and a (2) behind the name. As far as I know this numbers tell me, how many Impact Markers this weapons produce, right? I´m now wondering what makes the difference between the (1) and (2). Will it be (2) when I put 2 Mortars on one stand?
2. How do you base the mortars generally? One mortar per stand?
Any hints and tipps will be much appreciated.

Hi Ragnar,
1) As you noted, the number in parentheses notes how many 'tubes' are in each section in MS WWII, and of course, may be modeled that way if you like. But from a gaming perspective, if the order of battle calls for 1x 60mm mortar [2], and stand #304 represents that unit but only has 1 mortar model on it, it's still a 60mm mortar [2] unit for game purposes.
2) As I play and model more at the platoon scale and with 1" bases, I tend to think of the models more as 'representational' than faithful depictions. Many others prefer more accurate representations though.

you talk of MATG (MICRO ARMOUR at platoon level) but seems to read the table of MSTG (MICRO SQUAD at 1:1) . On my copy of MATG the German mortars are (1) or (3). Thgey are (1) or (2) on MSTG.
The difference is not irrelebant as in MATG you have the same (..) for artillery while in MSTG the artillery is one by one. So if you are using MATG it is better to put only one model for weapons or vehicles for stand because you cannot place 2 or 3 gun models on the same stand.

@ TAMMY:
Yes, I´m playing Micro Squad WWII. To see clearly whether the Mortar Squad has 1 ot two tubes, I´d put the appropriate Mortars onto the base. For MATG i´d put three Mortars (Teams) onto the stand if it should count as (3). On a 1" by 1" stand theres enough room for three 81mm Mortars...

Hi,
"What I still don´t understand is, that the 2-tube-stand doesn´t cost twice the points of a 1-tube-stand. Any idea for that? "
Good question Ragnar,
Even with lots of review help, mistakes happen with this large a database. Let me know which weapon (name of unit, nationality, and rule set -I think you said you've just got the MSTG rules) has a 1 and 2 tube variant but no cost difference and I'll get you a corrected cost for the 2 tube unit. They should not be the same cost, but also they often don't come out exactly double either due to the rounding in the formula. If you look through most mortars, for most countries listed in the MSTG rules, which have 1 and 2 tube variants, you will see a cost difference of about double.
Regards,

Hi Ragnar,
Manolo71 correcttly identified the formula issue. The formula in the book doens't correctly account for the multiple tubes. The formula Mr. Chrestensen used did, but the printed version did not.
I will update my calculator tool next week and post it on the MATG 2012 yahoo group when I get it corrected.
