As i have stated in a few posts I like things that are different. I am creating a force of SADF armor, infantry and aircraft and of course i have the requisite Cuban/Angolan as well as a few Mozambican opponent. Now I am considering branching out a bit and I am again looking for a conflict that is less well gamed then the traditional Nato/Warsaw pact.

Any Suggestions?

As you build your SADF, consider that a group in Africa of the countries is planning to have set up 5 regional defensive force groups to defend Africa and also to help in the event of a disasters, etc. First one is supposed to be operational in 2-3 years if my memory serves me. So you could use your SADF anywhere. Fight Egyptians, or Lybia.

Have them fight Canadians group with Leopard 1, LAV-25, Cougars and Grizzilies, ADATS, etc vs SADF: Ratel 20/60/90, Rooikats, Oliphant 1A and 1Bs and AMLs. A lot of wheeled vehicles out there. Could consider SADF vs Australia.

Have SADF fight a Russian, or other BTR80/90 unit with T-80/90 or a Chinese force. A Vortex if that is the right book by Larry Bond, SADF vs. USMC, SADF vs. Cubans.

Not quite sure if you're looking for something to pit your new SADF and other african armies against, or an all-new area to start a new army.

In the first case you could consider a Portuguese force (Pre-1974, Angola and Mozambique), or a modern Chinese force for a near-future fictional conflict.
Or read Vortex, by Larry Bond, as suggested.
If you want hypothetical and slightly more unusual, consider a UN or UK invasion of Rhodesia in the late '70's to depose the Ian Smith regime, or intervention in Zimbabwe (for 'humanitarian purposes') instead of UK participation in Iraq in 2003.

If you want something completely new - what about the Indo-Pakistan wars? Good mix of US/USSR/Chinese/UK/Frence equipment, but not simply 'one side has western kit, one side has eastern kit', some decent sized armour actions (I think) and air combats, and there have been a couple of them, so you can pick the era that appeals. Could also provide you with an Indian Army for Sino-Indian conflicts.

The "Theory" behind the forces I am building is that the US starts it War on Terrorism in the Mid 80's shortly after the Beirut bombing in 83. As such I have US MArines and 82nd Airborne, Soviet Airborne and Naval infantry along with "PLO". Am currently painting Syrians and intend to LEbanese and French next. It is set in Lebanon.

Latin American conflicts would be interesting. Peru vs Ecuador or Chile, Argentina vs Chile or Brazil, Columbia vs Venezuala.....

The 80's was the high season for the French "Force Action Rapide" (FAR). With the FAR you get an opportunity to get those ever-so-interesting French armored cars out on the table!

USMC, 82nd AD, and FAR ... you can put a 1980s game together against almost any force you could image with that!

I just wrote an essay for my local gaming buddies about Cold War scearios. It is titled "The Cold War (Not your Daddy's Fulda). Is there a way to attach a word document? I think it will be too big for a post. (And too annoying even if it isn't)

I'll only break it down into multiple post if you guys ask for it.

Run a Google search for lists of wars since 1945. They break them down by decade and have enough data to keep you gaming for literally years. They list conflicts I'd never heard of.

I can give you a scenario

Colombia vs farc vs ELN

Colombia vs Venezuela

(A scenario i always imagined was Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras fighting Colombia) (during the Chavez Regime)

Another scenario would be (Brazil vs Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras) Colombia would probably back brazil up in this one, since politically those pack of nations dont like colombia for having close alliance with the U.S.

Chile would probably be neutral, Argentina would join brazil and colombia

Uruguay and paraguay im not sure who they would join (probably be neutral)

Peru would probably join the Venezuela Alliance, since they are surrounded by Ecuador and Bolivia. (Just a guess)

Suriname and Guyana they would be between the sword and the wall, more likely join Venezuela.

French Guiana, remain neutral

Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa rica and Panama, they might also join Venezuela since they all been affected by U.S interests

Cuba would play a large role for Venezuela.

Mexico would more likely back Colombia up, since they have good relations (apart from the D rug Tr ade , lol)

(Suc ks my Mexico doesnt have no Air Power, or Mechanize or even MBTs!)

I almost forgot Belize, them i dont even know if they have an army or if they still are a colony of the UK.

In the 1980's? Belize has 3 infantry battalions (heavy weapons being Carl Gustavs and 81mm mortars). No artillery that I know of, and no combat aircraft. In the 1980's Britain maintained an infantry battalion there and a flight of RAF Harriers . This was to protect the newly independent Belize from Guatemala. Britain withdrew in 1994.

You should note several things about the smaller wars.

First, the armies are small as noted above about Belize's 3 battalions. It may actually be possible to build the entire army fairly cheaply.

Second, you can use the same figures for multiple armies. For example, I'm building the Mali conflict armies, 3rd World Regulars serve as troops for Mali, Chad, Nigeria, and many others.

Third, local armies may be made up of multiple troop types. Mali for example allows for the use of the Brushfire, 3rd World Regulars, and Sub-Sahara Irregulars in the same army. Again, the same figures can be used in many armies.

Fourth, the same is true of their vehicles and aircraft, allowing you to mix and match equipment from WWII through the present in several of the armies.

These give you an amazing amount of flexibility in building your forces.

So far of what ive read

Argentina is the most powerful regarding MBT with 600 M1Abrams and 200 M2 Abrams

Brazil comes in second with Leopards 1A1 and 1A5, 378
And 60 M60 tanks + EE-9 Cascabels (brazilian made).

Venezuela is third with 172 T-72 b1V


Is the EE-9 considered a mbt ?

Argentina has No M1 or variants of any kind......
