I recently finished 'tarting up' my US Armored Infantry Battalion

BHQ & Support Company assets and vehicles

Optional elements. Both replace the AT platoons in the infantry companies. The first turns the ATG crews into infantry. The second optional replaces the ATGS with 105mm RCLs mounted on jeeps. The latter optional comes in late '45 after the actual war had come to an end.

A comparison shot of a pre- and post- 'tarting up' infantry element.

Great looking FJs, love those parachutes. I recently bought an equal number of gliders from GHQ and the other vendor (where I think you got some of your FJs Bill). They are very comparable but GHQ has crisper detail and I like the cockpits a little better.

I concur, I've not got around to doing any Fallschirmjäger yet, but I've started to prepare.

#1 Generating a list of available figures. (I wish I had more details of whats in each of the GHQ packs).

#2 Started on the Junkers 52s. We tend to use 1/600th models for aircraft likely to land on the table (or just large aircraft).

#3 Gliders next. (Again 1/600th models by Oddzial Osmy)

Great work Gazza! Your infantry look awesome, and I admire your storage system too! Very organized!

What do you base your infantry squads on?

We need more pics of your work!

Thanks Redleg.

Basing Technique
1. Measure up some thin (about 1mm or 1/32 inch) card. (Although I have used small washers in the past for round bases)
2. Glue figures on (normally with pva glue).
3. Use wall filler to create the ground work.
4. Paint with thinned down pva and sprinkle on some sand.
5. Paint, wash, drybrush the bases.
5. Paint the figures.
6. Soak some Woodlands Scenics stuff in thinned down pva to create the bushes.
7. Matt varnish everything.

Here's a photo of some bases (at various stages) from a number of projects. Ignore my phone's shadow.

As I mentioned above, mostly on thin card. The bases measure 25mm, 20mm, and 15mm wide and 15mm deep. I have been thinking of going to 2mm thick laser cut mdf but the card is free. :-D

I'll see what I can do ;-)

Gaza’s you are very organized! I like your basing/storage system. And the spreadsheet which is great data. GHQ really could up it’s game in the FJ department - there’s a lot that could be done and it lends itself to miniature war gaming.

Great idea on the 1/600 - economical for sure. I’m hoping that eventually I can use my 3-D printer to create all sorts of wrecked and banged up gliders for a landing zone…

That's one of the reasons - the other main reason is ground scale. Our 1:1 rules use a ground scale of 1:2000 which means a 1:300/1:285 scale model takes up quite a bit of space.
