I don't have a favorite individual vehicle, but my favorite unit is probably my US M3 Tank Destroyers (for the Tunisian campaign).

Here are a couple of the TDs with crews and camo nets.
The paints:
Primer: white (I usually use Krylon spray primer. Available in most hardware and auto-parts stores).
Base color: Olive Green
Impromptu Camo Swatches: Mud
Tires and rubber tracks: Dirty Black
Stars: Signal Yellow
Dark Wash: Dirty Black
Dry Brush: Sahara Sand
Dirty Wash: Rust (over tracks, wheels and lower hull)
The camo netting was made with soft foam from the packaging of another company's micro armor, carefully shaved thin, then dosed with super glue (which melts it down a bit as well as sticking it to the tank), and then panted Olive Green.
Hope that helps.

I realised you asked about colours. The base in both cases is Lifecolor Dunkelgelb applied by airbrush. On the 250's I then added camo with Lifecolor Rotbraun and Olivgrun. I did those by brush, I have never managed to get my airbrush technique to the point where I can apply German camo at 1/285 scale. The details are various colours from whatever pot came to hand and looked right - mostly Coat D'Arms and Foundry. I do the tracks black then Rubber Track, with a bit of Corroded Rust on top (both Lifecolor), then some touches of Pig Iron from P3 to give the metallic glints. I tend to stick to Lifecolor for the basic colours on my vehicles - they are nice paints, and using a consistent range helps to give coherence across your units and army.

It’s not exactly my best painted tank, but this one is pretty popular at home. This is Princess Aurora’s M1A1 and Princess Cinderella’s HMMWV that I painted for my 5 year old daughter. It all started earlier this year when I took the kid on a Disney cruise and she asked me how the Disney princesses got on the ship. I told her the Navy flew them out on a helicopter and that they had Navy SEALs for a body guard. Naturally, they needed tanks too!

I have to admit that sadly, my computer linking skills as well as photography skills plus equipment are somewhat lacking.
Fortunately for me, GHQ has seen fit to display pictures of some of my work in their catalog.
Here are a few that I like.
1. R-18 T34/76 Model 1943.
This is painted with Humbrol paints as are all my models. In this case I used #86 German Light Olive as the base. This was lightened with a bit of #34 White till it looked about right for scale.
The tires on the roadwheels are #67 Panzer Gray which looks right at this scale for rubber.
I use a turpentine brown wash to make the details stand out. My brown wash consists of #89 Chocolate Brown mixed with #33 Black to make a grimy very dark brown almost black look.
For my tool handles where they exist, I generally use #110 Wood mixed with #34 White and a bit of #61 Flesh.
Decals on these models are from I-94. They make a set with smaller type Russian tactical numbers and another with small sized patriotic slogans.
I also did some light drybrushing on the vehicle and sprayed some "dust" lightly through and airbrush. The "dust" consists of very thinned down tan paint and sprayed from a distance so it doesn't pool on the model.
That is basically how I did these. Some other models I have are as follows:
2. R69 M4A2 "Russian Sherman".
3. W92 T-62>
4. W88 BMP-1
5. US97 M4A1 Modernized.
6. G28 Pz IIIL.
7. G561 Pz IIIN w. sideskirts.
8. G37 1.5 Ton Diamler-Steyr.
9. G71 Rauppenschlepper.
10. G569 Pak '44 Towed.
There are others but these are some that I wanted to share with you guys. If you have any questions on a specific model, please let me know.

Here is my contribution to this new discussion thread. This group of late 1970's US AFVs in Germany is my best effort to date.

I use oil paints and mix the colors from a fairly limited palette to get the colors needed, so I can't provide a list of commercial hobby colors. I don't use an air brush. I favor a pin type black wash for the models and I like to apply a dust coat with a large soft sable round to finish them off and give the vehicles a slightly in use look.
