Color for Swedish CV9040

Post by AllenRockwell »

Anyone know what color would work well for the Swedish CV4090's that were in Afghanistan? It looks like a slightly darker desert tan.

Also does anyone know if there is a plain green version without the splinter camo scheme? If so, what green would work.

I would love to do the splinter camo scheme ... but I'm not quite that insane.

This is the splinter camo pattern ... but I do not want to do this, it's just too crazy. I'm looking for the desert tan color that they wore in Afghanistan.

You know my first thought when I saw this - Caunter. Not identical, but a linear descendant.

Its not as crazy or hard as you think. More time consuming than a simpler camo scheme to be sure, but not crazy. I've been using blue painters tape to good effect to pull off something similar on my German Puma IFVs...

If you want to try your hand at it, let me know.

I'll give that a try Cama, thanks.

Just my luck, I spent a fortune on a 72 piece set of Vallejo Military colors... and that one is not one of the ones in the set I bought. What are the chances? :)

Allen,

Here are pics of an "all green" CV9040C http://www.primeportal.net/apc/thord_wedman/cv9040c/

I found reference on the web that those vehicles that were readied for UN white paint started life in the overall green and not the standard splinter pattern.

Thanks David, the all green scheme could be a good backup plan. All my game boards are Iraq and Afghanistan style boards... so I always prefer the desert schemes, but it's certainly a fact that many green vehicles ended up fighting in the desert.

Green vehicles in the desert is to tan vehicles here in the States. I joke how the US Army looks like the German army of 1943 with tan as the most common vehicle color.

On a side note, my motorpool (3-321 FAR (HIMARS)) is a cornucopia of color with "green" HIMARS launchers, "NATO 3-color" RSV LMTVs, and "tan" HMMWVs. Things have not changed a bit since being in the late 1980s at FT Riley, KS 2-3 ADA (Vulcan-Stinger). There we had everything from winter verdant, to summer verdant, to gray desert, to NATO 3-color, and just plain CARC green in our one motorpool alone.

Hello,

I have to second David. No Strf 9040C out there in Splinter camo. I did quite a lot research on the CV90 versions and never saw a photo of a Strf 9040C in Splinter camo, all have been painted UN-white, overall green or in desert colors. Vehicles on deployment often were additionally equipped with the Barracuda MCS.

Kind regards,
Benjamin

Yep, I have yet to see a real "C" in splinter camo. I did see one early mock up done but that had a different set of turret armour way back when.

In fact most of the newer Swedish kit is rolling around in the solid green too.
XA-203 and AMV (XA-360?) only seen in single colour as far as I know.

The early mock up you are talking about seems to be the one which still had the coax MG in place which was moved to the turret top on the serial Strf 9040C as well as on the Lvkv 9040C, Stripbv 90C and Epbv 90C. Furtehrmore the Ksp m/39 MG was replaced by the Ksp 58 MG on the named vehicles.

I share the observation that most of the newer kit comes in green. Nevertheless I have some photos of Patgb 203 in Splinter-camo. The Patria AMV is designated Patgb 360 by the Swedish Army.

Cheers,
Benjamin

I've done a little experimenting based on Cama's suggestion of using Vallejo Green Ochre.

I'm really liking the one on the far right, it's painted with the Green Ochre then washed with "European Dust" and the drybrushed with a 50/50 mix of the Green Ochre and White.

Now I'll paint the tracks and do a little weathering with powders and see what the results are.
