Where to go for GHQ in LA & LV

Post by OBe »

People
I'm looking for wargaming stores in the Las Angeles to Las Vegas area who stock GHQ.
I'm flying in for a convention at Vegas, but am at a loose end for 2-3 days before the show starts, and was hoping to pick up some miniatures to take back to Oz.
I do realise that LA is 'large', and the general idea we have is to drive from LA to Vegas with a bit of sightseeing.
Can anyone assist with possibilities?
Cheers

I would call Brookhurst before heading over there. I am from Seattle and have gone to LA over that last 2 years for work and vacation. I stop by to check out there stock of Tumbling dice aircraft. They never have anything out to browse and I end up just giving them a list for them to take forever to retrieve it. Kind of kills the impulse buy. As for GHQ stuff, I have yet to see anything other than a few packs out front. That does not mean they don't carry it in the back, but its not listed on there web site and I have not asked them if they have any. Head my example with tumbling dice, you might want to check before wasting time on side trip and come up empty handed.

Just a note, I am not knocking them, great bunch of guys. On one visit, they asked if I wanted to participate in an axis and allies game. However, my girlfriend was with me and since it rains in seattle 10 months of the yea, there was no way I was pulling that one off without loosing credit on my hobby acceptance account.

According to google maps I am 48 minutes from Brookhurst Hobbies. I'll conduct a reconnaissance this weekend and report back. The wife will be thrilled.

My small group instructor at Sill had a saying: Time on the recce is time well spent!

Cama, They did say something about reorganizing when I popped in. Maybe they just have it stored away. That is why the they said the tumbling dice stuff was put away.

I'd second the advice to call brookhurst first if specifically going for GHQ inventory. It is an amazing store for models and hobby stuff. When I dropped by while on vacation to the theme parks a couple years ago they had nothing from GHQ in stock.

You might want to see how close gamecraft miniatures is to the LA region. That is high on my list of places to visit in CA.

best of luck

Wayne came by and visited my place this morning. It was really great meeting him. Wayne will always have the distinction of being the very first customer to visit the GameCraft compound (AKA, the workshop next to my house). I was worried that he'd be expecting a large manufacturing facility with bright shiny machines and things ... but he was totally cool with hanging out in my dumpy little shop and then my home office where he stocked up on loads of GHQ,,, stuff tax-free and shipping-free.

So my very first customer visit came from about as far away as anyone could :)

Good times.

Well Allen, Both me and my girlfriend have grown quite fond of Palm Springs, Get out there every once in a while. So if you welcome fans to stop bye your operation, maybe I might add that to the itinerary. Not sure the next time we will be there but I do think I would enjoy seeing where the Game Craft miniature Magic happens the next time we blow through town along with the tumble weeds....

Sick kid spoiled my plans for a trip to Brookhurst this weekend. :( But now that I know that Allen's door is open I may be heading east instead! I love those tank transporters!

Email me if you want to come by some time. But please keep in mind that I make everything to order... I do not have inventory you can see. The one exception to that is the GHQ stuff I stock, that stuff is actually here ... everything else is just raw material until you place an order. Also it's a tiny little shop on the same property as my house... so if you are expecting a nice big manufacturing plant in a commercial building you'll be disappointed.

In reply to Allen's comments about my visit, I think he's downplaying his operation terribly.
I'll give you MY version of events....
- Arrive Gamecraft Miniatures Corporate HQ
- Greeted in foyer by K9 security Team
- Officially greeted by CEO & given personal guided tour of the public face of the corporate powerhouse
- Additional tour of cutting-edge manufacturing and logistics facility (very cool, btw..!!)
- CEO dealt personally with my retail requirements
- Farewelled in person by CEO and aforementioned security team
- Warm, happy glow from my experience (which lasted until arrival at Las Vegas, wherupon gloom settled upon me...;-)

Thank you, Allen. It was excellent to put a face to the name and being welcomed into your home & workshop.

I'm hoping to catch up again sometime. perhaps around the same time next year.

Thanks again.

Wayne,

It was great meeting you. The K9 Security Team always loves those rare occasions when someone new comes calling ... especially the PitBull puppy ,,, he's a bundle of energy.

Glad you enjoyed the visit. See you next year.

Apologies for the necro-post, but I'm heading back to Vegas again in January & won't be in a position to stop in LA or visit Allen, sadly.
As such, I'm specifically looking for anywhere in Las Vegas which might cover gaming. Obviously GHQ stock would be good, but anything historical would also be worth a look.

Well, I take it from the echoing silence that there is no further info forthcoming. I would have thought that there would be a gaming store of some kind in Vegas, but perhaps not one with the good taste to stock GHQ. :-)

My colleague an I are driving from LAX to Vegas, so I think I may just call into Brookhurst again. We're going the long way via Death Valley to have a look, so if there's anything via that way, could someone please let us know.

Sadly, I shan't be in a position to visit Gamecraft's Corporate Bunker again, which is a great pity.

Cheers

I thought I had replied to this ... I guess not :(

The War House in Long Beach caries GHQ and it's a cool little store. I have not been there in forever but I know they carry GHQ because they bring their stock to the local convention in LA sometimes. Not a long trip at all from LA, worth the drive.
