SU-100 Restoration

Post by Begemot »

Here is a link to a video about the restoration to running condition of a SU-100. Should be of interest to WW2 East Front and Russian armor aficionados. In Russian with English subtitles.

SU-100 operational in Yemen (still/again)

Many other sites have similar pictures of these SU-100. These were given as aid to South Yemen Army, integrated to the combined Yemen Army in 1990. Most were put in reserve stockpile in the 1990s, but with the recent political changes, even stockpiled vehicles are in demand.

Note: While the SU-100 may seem ancient, it uses the same cannon and ammo of the T-54/T-55 which are still in very wide service. The ammo continues to be upgraded over the years since WWII and while still only 100mm, it is still effective against vehicles, except for the most recent tanks.

See another video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpoOfIGbZvg (not Yemeni)

Thanks very much for sharing that video. It was very interesting and informative and the neat thing was seeing it move again under its own power.
I really appreciate seeing these old vintage vehicles being lovingly restored to their former peak condition.
