I also had a number of them a few years ago. I am 99.9% certain they are separate parts

Yep, separate parts. You get 2 full sets and a single spare, with 3 propellers.
Btw, the Thunderbolt has the same mix, but with the American triple-tube instead of the UK 4-pack.
