I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using table mats, which seem to be gaining favor in some of the other scales. After seeing their use with 3D objects mounted on top ,the effect was quite good. However I did not see any use of micro scale mats, and wondered if any where available. Has anyone pursued this?

I assume you mean mats printed with terrain? Fields, roads, that kind of thing?
There are plenty of mats out there that will work for micro armor. It's more about your ground scale than your figure scale really. Cigar Box, for example, makes mats with fields - these look fine with 6mm.
I tend to use plain mats - green or tan - myself and add all the terrain piece by piece, but I have been tempted by some of the field mats out there...

They are great for quick setup and transport but won't look as good as custom built terrain.
Cigar Box mats are really popular (saw a lot of them at Historicon). I recently got one for that quick setup at the store we play at. Waterloo and Quatre Bras look like they might work for 6mm.

As mentioned, I have designed a handful of medium sized gaming mats (40 inch x 60 inch). My initial plan was to sell them... and I may still do that. But, they are pretty expensive to print (~$45 each) and I'd have to sell them for a bit more to make a profit. In the end, I just don't have the time to spend on this side project.
If anyone is interested, I do have a handful of mats that I produced as test pieces (grass, city, grass/city mix, ocean, ocean hex, and Iron Bottom Sound ocean). PM me if you are interested and I'm happy to sell one to you for much less than they cost me to make them.
I agree with WargameHub that they won't look as good as professional/custom terrain... but they look pretty darn good, they are durable, and best of all they are SUPER easy to setup and store.
Cama's site shows a pretty good representation of what they look like. I also have a few photos:
