Price increase and other GHQ offerings

Post by av8rmongo »

(Bear with me, I'm not trying to beat a dead horse I promise.)

Do any of you frequent the other fora (N and HO scale) for GHQ products? I don't usually myself but my kids did a summer camp on stop motion movie making and it has had me thinking. I have a concept and then I remembered that GHQ made an N-scale M1A2 so I thought the larger size might be better suited for my work, better detail etc. When I looked it up in the catalog I was surprised to see that at $17.95 it was only about 50% more than a pack of 1/285 scale tanks at the new price. I checked the N-scale forum to see if GHQ management had made a similar price increase announcement and there wasn't one. Zip on the HO scale forum as well.

Do any of you buy these products and could tell if the price increase hit them as well? Or does anyone have an old catalog with these products? $18 is a lot to pay for one tank but with the summer sale it would be $15.25 or so. My fear is the rest of the catalog hasn't caught up with the price increase and the $18 is really more like a $22 tank. Or worse, with the evident lack of activity on those fora GHQ has ceased production altogether.

Price increase and other GHQ offerings

Post by Guroburov »

Hi av8rmongo, You got me wondering so I had to go look for it. Found it under N-Scale models in military equipment and it's still listed at $17.95.

I suspect part of the lack of a price increase is due to slower sales.

The Model Railroading crowd have gotten spoiled with lots of pre-built and pre-decorated structures and vehicles over the last 20 or so years.

GHQ's HO and N scale kits are pretty much the best on the market but, just don't sell as well as they used to.

I checked the wayback machine, internet archive, and the oldest hit is December 17, 2003, the price shown is $17.95

Ray,

Thanks for confirming the price non-increase. I've decided however not to order any. It wold be better detailed for my video concept but then again I couldn't really just pull it off with just one. I would also need to upsize all the terrain stuff appropriately and I don't really have the time or interest in doing that for a one-off project.

So... I spent that money ordering some more 1/6000 ships from Figurehead. I had some gaps to fill for some mid-cold war scenarios. Now when the LCS comes out at the end of the week I can place a sale order with GHQ and be good to go for the S. China Sea.
