Hi, i was just wondering if there is any really noticeable difference between GHQs HMS King George V and HMS Prince of Wales.
I have the KGV standing in for the PoW for the Battle of the Denmark Strait senarios at the moment. The perfectionist in me says get the PoW but the skinflint says save my money if the difference isn't that obvious...
Any thoughts?

Although I do not consider myself a Royal Navy expert, I have learned a good deal about the warships of WWII from my rather extensive library of books on the subject as well as online sources. From the photos in the GHQ catalog, the model of the King George V appears as the ship was armed at the time of the Denmark Strait battle, May 1941. The model of the Prince of Wales, however, looks like she did after her December 1941 refit.
The differences in appearance were twofold. Firstly the anti-aircraft armaments were different. KGV had 4 20-barrel UP rocket launchers: 1 on the "B" turret, 2 on the "Y" turret, and 1 aft on the quarterdeck. POW lacked the UP mounting at the stern, and in Dec. 1941 her UP mountings were replaced by 2 8-barrel 2-pounders: 1 on the "B" turret and 1 on the "Y" turret. (Both also had 4 8-barrel 2-pounders on the aircraft hangar roof near the foremast and forward stack.) POW also added 7-20 mm guns: 3 on the quarterdeck and 4 on the bridge, port and starboard.
The second difference was in KGV. She had an external degaussing coil, the only one in her class. IMHO, this is a more striking difference in appearance than the AA outfit. So if I were to choose between the two, I would buy the Prince of Wales. I would suggest you look at the photos and choose which one pleases you the most. Also GHQ has a summer sale on, but it ends soon.
