Team Yankee Painting Guides?

I'm still on the fence about doing moderns. I have some counters I printed up that let me test out rules on the cheap. But I enjoy FoW so am looking at doing Team Yankee in 6mm possibly.

Since I needed some other packs, I ordered up a pack of T-72s and some BMPs just for kicks. Wondering is this another period where the Soviets are just a wave of green or do they do any interesting camo?

And what green do you like for Soviets?

(I'll be asking about US forces too as I got some M1s and Bradleys).

I just started painting my Team Yankee and here are some pics. Almost finished and then I have to base them. Next up will be Team Bravo, the infantry and support assets.

This is my Russian T80 Battalion, I didnt think they would go with only T72's in the first release. But no biggie because I want to buy 31 T72's and 10 BMP1's because of the new molds. Now I have a good reason to buy them

Nice work there Skeem. It looks pretty impressive to me. What are you using as your bases for the vehicles and what are the dimensions?

Thanks man, I am very hyped to get them on the table and play some games. The bases are Flames of War medium bases for their infantry teams and they are about 2" x 1". I plan to use the small bases for my 6mm infantry teams and those are about 1" x 1". I think they work out perfectly for 6mm. Plastic Soldier Company makes similar bases for much cheaper and so does LITKO. I like the FoW because of the angel of the rim. They look good painted

I'm also going to use 1/2 size bases. Infantry/medium bases are 2" x 1.25" Smaller bases are 1 x 1.25" (those for for command squads, LMG teams, FOOs etc.)

I use the steel bases from Wargames Accessoeries, and just have him cut me custom sizes (I also do Flames of War WW2 the same way). For the small bases I actually use 15x15mm. That's as small as I would ever go and it won't really affect the game.

I don't like the FoW bases for 6mm because I like my bases as thin as possible...

Thanks for the compliments but honestly I think the color I used on the Russians is too dark and i'm looking for a new color for the next battalion. I'm looking at using FoW Tankovy green. One of my peeve's is I only use colors that come in both spray cans and pots. Some paints don't go through the air brush so good so I stopped trying to do that. Any color I pick has to come in a spray can. As for the bases I like the FoW bases because to me every model is a small diorama and the edges of their bases look very professional in my opinion. Especially when you paint the edges a different color like I do. But that's just me and the look i'm going for.

Oh and I used the large base for the battalion HQ.
