Austral -- A Middle Eastern ultra-modern imagi-nation created with the superb "Not Just a Brush War" nation builder. In short, it's a small Persian Gulf nation originally settled in the 1800s by male Australian refugees from the Ned Kelly rebellion and Russian mail order wives. Austral's state religion is Russian Orthodox and it has maintained cordial relations with Russia throughout the 20th century.

From a wargaming perspective, its army is thoroughly Western in training and doctrine, but largely equipped with Russian gear. Its main opponent is Saudi Arabia and the wargames will be set in about 2010. In this timeline, the War on Terror went rather differently and Saudi Arabia is a stronger power. It will also let me see how Western training and doctrine works with Russian gear. Rules are my "A Fistful of TOWs 3".

Anyhow, a few photos:

More photos at my website (look in the 6mm Modern Warsaw Pact and 6mm Arab sections). Models are mostly GHQ, with some C-in-C and a few H/R. At first, I was going to just use old 1/285 models that I'd stripped, but I broke down and bought a bunch of BMP-T, BTR-T, Tunguska, T-90 and T-72 models. Those photos go up in the next few weeks. Eventually, I plan to create Australian, British, South African(!) and Canadian (!) expeditionary forces to fight the Persian Gulf Soccer War (Saudi Arabia bribes the World Cup referees and beats the Austral team in the finals, which precipitates a regional war).

Also, Queen Kathy, her consort and the PM Malcolm Tucker:

Excellent armour.
I believe the Austral Cultural Attache was in my Nation of Balzac last Month.
"Les" Paterson was removed by police from a British Airways flight at the international airport and no airline would take him onward. We finally got him out of the country in an Air Force C130.
The Balzac brewing industry has started a campaign to have him return as the Austral Ambassador.

Love the camo, the dark blue-grey sets them off terrifically.
Yeah, one great thing about imagi-nations is that you can play around with improbable camo schemes. By the way, you are an outstanding painter. Have you produced any tutorials?

You've done a crackin' good job with those paint schemes Ty.

I do have to say you're relentless in your ever expanding universe of rules, scenarios and thoughts on the world of micro armor. Thanks for all you do!

I love it! I've had an imagi-nation for several years now too - the Republic of Dalmatia. I'll post the flag of the ROD when I can upload it to a pic site and add it here. Love your camo!

Redleg,
My intel service is not working, keeping an eye on "putin' Paul and his Russians.
What are the military assets and TO&E of the fine Republic of Dalmatia?
The RAN may have a port call of the HMAS Canberra, if you permit and would like the visit. Royal Australian Navy (RAN) deploys HMAS Canberra with with the HMAS MacArthur(also has the former USS Tortugas).

The ROD would welcome a visit from your magnificent warships and would like the opportunity to establish diplomatic and military relationships!

The ROD has American and German cultural influences, but militarily it is based on Modern US TO&E (cuz that's what I know best). I was inspired by Peter Shulman's War so I adopted a lot of his ideas, like naming real people from my life as commanders in the ROD military. From a micro armor perspective the ROD is only a few battalions strong, but in other non-miniature games the Grundwehr (ROD's Army) swelled to 40 divisions!

The ROD flag is simple, like the Dalmatian people themselves:

The country is located in the Indian Ocean near Australia. It's big, but I needed a big country to support a massive army for WW3!

Following up after thinking of the I-magination.... Consider Big, Big Country.....
28 Merkava 4 (2 cos), 28 Pumas (2 cos), VBL for Recon, GCT-30 for Arty or PanzerHaubitz 2000. Should they have a tank destroyer? Austrian TD Sk-105 or Stryker 105.

Other options: Arty- G-6, 2S-19 152 ,
Tank Destroyer: could use Chinese TD, JagKanone 120,

Just a few ideas that I've come up with so far.
Any other ideas?

Mark,
I am not attacking the Country of Rod, or Rod Republic, or ROD is 'Republic of D_______'. There are no islands to use as stepping stones to get there. Where are are your natural resources? However, my Aussies will defend our territory with vigor. Just give me time to paint a few more M1A1 AIM. Production bottlenecks, political bickering and infighting.with budget issues. The old painted dried up on the shelf. Those Humanitarian missions with the Canberra takes resources, time, wear & tear on the ship and crew.
The SADF, have hundreds of Ratels,to deploy. Lack heavy armor, Lack a navy. What are your intentions. Madagascar, has UR-416, I don't.
Tell me about the naval, air and land forces, please. All Indian Ocean compact members desire to know, inquiring minds want to know about our dear friendly neighbor.

What was I doing wrong to get the picture to post? Something very minor no doubt.

Have you played any games yet, Ty? If so, it would be great to see some pictures / AARs?

To answer your question... For the first picture I don't know why it didn't work for you. When I cut and paste your text it comes up just fine.

For the second picture you are missing the backslash in the second img brackets.

Your text: Image

When I changed that it worked fine.

Hope that helps.
