So I've been finishing up a few Soviet units for Flames of War, and upgrading some basing for some figures as well. Unfortunately my old basing called for as small a base as possible. My new basing calls for a unit ID at the rear of the stand. The old stands often don't have room for the ID tag. So now I have to decide whether it's worth re-basing or not before I get too far.

I'm thinking about slightly larger bases, and maybe using just a few standard sizes instead of bases sized to the vehicles. Something about standard base sizes appeals to my eye...

I've dealt with this problem a number of times as I've shifted the focus of my gaming. I'm not going to claim any sort of standardization; my collection is just too big for that. However, something that you might find useful for adding ID tag, since it appears your bases are metal, is picking up some magnetic sheeting from Home Deport or wherever (it is marketed as magnetic vent covers). Cut it into strips the width of your existing stands, print out unit labels to the same width, glue them to the squares (or whatever) of magnetic sheeting, and attach them to the bottom. This has the advantage of allowing you to change ID without rebasing. I've used this extensively with 10mm GHQ ACW units.
